Anyone else noticed there engine surging in reverse. I've noticed that when I'm backing up and my foot is off the brake the truck surges.

Engine surges when you move the steering wheel. Also surges during the so called injector cleaning BS.

I notice it in Drive when I start it up. This engine takes forever to idle down below 1k.

Yup ... surging is a distinct problem with my '17 TRD off road. Forward as well as reverse I've encountered unsafe surging. I'm going to advise my dealership about the problem so it gets on "record" just in case of future issues.

I was thinking that was addressed with a TSB a year ago or so?

It was, and the TSB fixes the issue --my 17 did it really bad. After the tsb was applied --no problems. For the curious you can search my posts and you will find out the details of my experience with this problem..
Sorry I don't recall the TSB number.

Mine surges a bit in the morning in reverse at small throttle openings while backing out of the garage.
Not enough for me to light it on fire in the dealership parking lot though.

When Toyota's area rep was working to find out what was causing the issue -- it was found to be the input from the steering system that caused the surge. If it would be possible to go forward or reverse without touching the steering wheel -there would be no surge - of course this is all but impossible. Odd thing is that after testing out 3 other new trucks they figured out that different trucks had the symptoms in varying amounts. One was worse than mine, another was about equal, and finally one did not show any symptoms at all.
So if yours is a mild case or not much of an issue --good for you! If it was like mine was -it was ridiculous as you would feel like you had no control.

Couldn't you have waited 9 more days so the thread would be exactly 2 years since the last post..

Make fun of the request all you want but--An unsolved problem/issue -is STILL just that "a problem" . It did not go away for the person. If you were to have this issue -you would not be happy, I can guarantee that!

It was just a joke man I’m sure there are more archived threads to refresh. The OP never responded so sounds like it’s no longer a problem to me.
