Adding Cruise Control (MT) W/Pics

So I never really found a thread with pics of the clutch switch being installed. So I thought I would post mine up. This is on my 06 base MT (prewired).

To start the install remove the negative cable from your battery. (If you want to keep track of your trip A/B write it down because it will be reset)

Remove the two panels on either side of the steering wheel to gain access to the air bag Torx screws.
Loosen them (they will not fall out the have a retainer that holds them in)

Flip the air bag out of the way.


Install the new cruise switch using supplied hardware. Remove the horn ground from the oem connector by pulling up on the tab to unlock the wire.


Place the blue ground in the new connector (top left) plug in the cruise harness.



Reinstall the horn.
Cut a hole in the oem cover to allow full movement in all directions. I used a knock out tool I had laying around (35mm)



Check fitment, adjust if needed.
Cut a piece of black felt to cover the back side of the cover. Hot glue in place. Cut a cross pattern to allow the switch to move.






Clutch switch:
Set the parking brake.
Use something to hold down the clutch pedal (Ole Black Magic) did the trick for me. Measure the oem bolt length. Install switch. I chose to put the jam nut on the bottom it was way easier than feeling around blindly on top. Set the length. Plug in the harness (taped under the dash)




Reconnect the battery and test.

I installed my cruise without the clutch switch (im lazy) just shorted the wire to the ECU. I've only stabbed the clutch a few times with the cruise engaged, luckily when you change gears it kills the cruise

Wow your truck was prewired, I'm jealous!!! I had to run all wires to ECU and fuse panel.

 

Yea I got lucky I guess. I've been reading up on installing fog lights hopefully mine is prewired for that also!

 

How did you remove the horn ground wire from the connector?

 

I used a small flat head screw driver to open the release on the connector. Pay attention to the orientation of the pin when you take it out. Then repeat to put the ground in the new connector.

 

Can someone explain what the clutch switch does and how to install it? Im looking to do this to my truck.

 

It turns the cruise off when you push the clutch in. See above pictures for install.

 

Where did you find the info on running wires to ECU and fuse panel?

 

I had my mechanic add a clutch switch and cruise control , but it only worked a couple of times. The only thing I could think is the clutch swich was not adjusted correctly.
