Short Bed or Long Bed?

Time to take sides. Let's hear your opinion on:

Why is a short-bed better?
Why is a long-bed better?

Bonus points if you don't answer something like "it depends on what your needs are, or what you're using it for."

In your opinion which makes the most sense and which one is truly "better"?

 

Depends on what you are going for. Most guys who mainly use their truck as a "utility" vehicle and don't have much need for off-road will tell you to get the longer bed for more function. If doing off-road is a concern, then many get the short bed. There are some guys on here that have even swapped out their long bed trucks for a short bed because of the benefits of a shorter wheelbase for off-road.

 

Short bed. Anything you can haul in a long bed you can haul in a short bed with bed extender. Short bed more capable off road whereas long bed can get high centered. Long bed looks weird like a big oscar weiner mobile. Short bed easier and more practical to maneuver and park. Also long bed guys are compensating for being short elsewhere @jsinnard

 

Short beds better because you don't get sucked into moving other peoples crap. The long bed is better because you can move all your own crap. If your going to buy a short bed why spend so much for an expensive truck when a wheel barrow will do the same job?

 

But what if you add a bed extender to a long bed?

 

Then you're really coming up short somewhere

 

Since I had both I like the LB a bit more.

 

I own a long bed. Only reason that is, is because the SR didn't come in manual 4x4 w/ double cab short bed. I don't feel that I need the extra space, and if I did, like others have said ... bed extender.

 

I have the long bed because I use it as a truck more than I use it wheeling.

 

More importantly get whichever one you can in Manual transmission.

I bought a truck to use as a truck, thus access cab which only has the longer bed. I don't care about carting passengers around, that's what my car is for. I can carry anything I need, nobody wants to ride in my truck (big plus ), and I can still off road just fine. And no, I won't help you move.

 

I came from a Wrangler Unlimited so I'm used to being limited on space....

I wanted a SB because it has plenty of room for me, fits in my garage better, and is a little more maneuverable. The long bed is big enough that I would have just gotten a full size truck if I thought I needed that much room.

 

Short bed. I went through back and forth on this a few times.

Short Bed = fits in my garage
Short Bed, 5 foot bed, long 6 foot bed. The way I look at it, most everything I will ever need a truck for fits in a 5 foot bed. Dirt, trash, snowboards, moving crap and beer. There are very few things I think fit between a 5 and 6 feet. If it is longer than that tailgate needs to be down anyways.

I have yet to move a couch that would fit in a 6 food bed with the tailgate up. Plus the 3rd gens look like they were designed to be a DCSB, my opinions anyway.

Short bed looks better in my opinion. If you need more hauling capability, go long bed. If you only haul occasionally, the short bed will be just fine.

 

a short bed is kinda like a flaccid dick, useless.

 

Long bed. More SECURE storage.

Let the girls have the short beds.
