50k shit I'd need a rebuild every 3 years. That would suck.

I've never got 50k out of any shocks I've ever owned on any vehicle that's had even 1/2 decent suspension travel. Shock is still there, not fallen off, not leaking, not rusted, good seals, valving and oil is always shot. So while it's still working as a shock, it's not working as well as it should. I think you'll find that's the difference between the intervals defined on the re-buildable ones and throw away items. Re-buildable want you to re-build before you start screwing up parts that would make it uneconomical to re-build. My last set of long travel 5100's (not on a tacoma) I got about 10k before they were shot.

Sounds like the fox level 2 kit is prob. The way I'm going to go hearing the icon problems on this site and on this thread. What are your thoughts on the Tacoma pro fox struts/coilovers on the 2017's

The TRD Pro suspension is 2.5 fronts with non adjustable height. So same as what's in the level 2 but minus the height adjustable collar. It has 2.5 rears with remote resi's though which are bigger than the 2.0s in the level 2 kit. Last I heard they running a few hundred north of $2k. You can get the same setup straight from fox for less than the trd setup but it's possible TRD requested custom valving for them. I personally would only recommend them if you could get a like new set that was pulled off a trd pro for cheap... like close to $1k for all of it cheap. Might as well just get a kit straight from fox or better yet King if you're ready to throw down north of $2k

My first gen TRD OR bilsteins went over 75K miles...given maybe 90% of that was on-road mileage and for the most part the truck maintained stock throughout that period.

My understanding is you have to take them off (or pay someone to take them off) send them in and get them rebuilt. Not sure on cost. Also your truck will be down while they rebuild them unless you have some loaners to swap it out with. If you're paying the labor to have this done it could get expensive real fast I'd think.

You can do either. You can buy a kit and service them yourself but you'll have to buy some tools as well to do it..unless you already have said tools. I'll let someone else chime in on price and time-frame.

I don't want to derail this thread. However. Sooner or later I will be in the same boat. What about OME? I see all their stuff is just shocks. No reservoir's on any of the kits. Are the OME kits good for like slow Off roading?

OME from what i know is great stuff... and i have been looking at it too, but i am kind of liking the adjustablity of a coilover

but about a month ago i was about ready to just jam a 1/2'' spacer in the front and call it a day......

Icon/King/Fox/ADS will need rebuilds around the 50k mark. My icons get 98% of their use in LA traffic and 3 of the 6 are leaking and 2 of the shafts are rusted. Not a big deal because they are rebuildable though. Many people see rebuildability as a drawback but it is actually a plus. my rear two shocks were rebuilt this week and they are like brand new. You are essentially getting brand new shocks when they return. If I had billies and my shaft rusted or something of the sort, I'd need to buy a new shock.
My Icons are leaking, but not early on. I've seen threads on Icon/Fox leaking after as short as 5k, but I think those are closed cases and not common.
I have been working too much to crawl under the truck to remove them so I had my girlfriend bring the whole truck into a shop that pulled them off, rebuilt, and replaced.

It cost me 200 in labor (100 for rebuild and 100 for removal/replacement hassle) and 125 in parts (only because one of my shafts was pitted, replacement was 55) so if you took them off yourself, and didn't have a messed up shaft, then you'd be looking at 70 in parts (oil and seals), 100 or so in labor depending on shop. after taxes and such, approximately 200 for the rear and same price for the front. So 400 bucks every 50k miles. If you think of it like standard maintenance, it doesn't hurt that bad. If you pay to get your oil changed that is 100 bucks every 5k miles to put it in perspective.

Also apparently rebuilding is pretty easy. Never learned how, but I've heard it's easy to learn from youtube. If I had the time, could have gone that route.

It would be more cost-effective to do the Bilstein 6112, then at 50,000 miles if you need replace with another new set. That is if you're trying to stay at 2" lift or under. I've had other brands of coil overs that One set lasted 10,000 miles another set lasted 70,000 from the same brand

They're more like 550. I think Icon stage 1s are around a grand. Rebuilding costs ~300 for a pair. So yeah, technically buying 2 sets of 6112s is cheaper than having 1 set of icons rebuilt. You get what you pay for though.

I guess if you aren't going to hit 150. I have heard that the 6112s are fine coilovers though. I ran 5100s on my tacoma and the difference is night and day to a real coilover like one of the big 4 (ADS/King/Icon/Fox). Don't know about 6112's though.
