Master craftsmen are expensive. There is a reason for this

For reference: you can order all the tools, and components to build a blueprinted Remington 700 long action for about the price of a semi-custom blueprinted Rem700. Just add master gunsmith.

Semi-custom meaning, off the shelf as the master gunsmith builds it, not tweaked to your specs.

 

It's all good, I don't have a lathe or the time, however I am willing to pay someone with the time and a CNC lathe.

When I was in High School I spent more time at the Gun Smith then in school most weeks .

Myself I think that was a much better learning experience then in class any time

My one teacher took us up to Hart barrels for a field trip .

I spent most of my senior year in the machine shop, definitely a better use of my time than the alternative.

 

If practicality is the name of the game, where is the practicality in putting $3-4-5k into a gun? At the end of the day, to each their own. I will admit now to scrolli g through Gunbroker just now amd realizing I grossly underestimated how much $ these companies are selling their guns for. $10k? Wtf

 

My gun will see in excess of 10-15K rounds run through it. The bolt gun I'm running now is up around 9800, as a hunting rifle action it was never intended to see that kind of use. It's also on its third barrel. The factory barrel was changed out for a heavier target contour in 30cal ran about 6k rounds through it, changed out to the 7mm. I shoot between 800-1000 rounds/season that lasts from Jan to Dec. If you look at the initial $ investment of the gun spread out over multiple years it's no different than buying a truck. For me firearms are tools I tend to use them differently than most folks, just like a carpenter buys new hammers or a new saw.
