Hey, I just did my exhaust reroute, does anyone have pictures of their skid plates from the side view? I cant seem to find any good pics of the third gen tacoma from the side view, to see how ground clearance is affected... Also to see how awesome mines will look in the mall parking lot :)

From what I've seen, Pelfrybilt only makes a v6 transfer skid with a huge nob in the middle to allow for the pipe. Most other companies just make a lower transfer skid for the pipe. Rci offers a 4 cylinder model which looks much higher

That's why I made this thread

Did you ever figure anything out? I have RCI skids and they are now vibrating and rattling against my exhaust :rockband:

RCI includes a 1"x1" steel bar to use as a spacer on that cross member to bump the skidplate below the exhaust. If you get a re-route simply take the spacer off and it will raise the skids up by an inch!

I've been considering adding the transmission/ transfer case skid plates from RCI (I've already got the front one). Apparently, they've changed the design and you no longer have to use the spacer for the exhaust.

I grabbed this picture off of Instagram. I did call RCI and confirmed that this is the new design that is shipping now. Maybe someone from RCI will chime in.

That's pretty cool - I didn't know they changed their designs. But in all practical purposes I think I'd rather have a flat skid for the entire length considering that the overall ground clearance is still the same.

That's why I bought the original design over all the other bump designs that were available. I'm glad I got the old one

There are probably some pros/cons to both sides and I'm sure they can accommodate whatever you decide to go with. I saw some pictures of crushed spacers under the transmission cross member so I'm not sure that design was perfect either.

That was the original spacer. They made a stronger one later

Good to hear. Lots of pictures of the old design on a thread I started a few months back in case people are researching options. FWIW, I think they make some quality stuff. My RCI skid plate has held up great and I bashed my factory one up pretty good in a short period of time.

I just had my exhaust rerouted for $70. If anyone is looking for a shop in the Los Angeles area that will do a killer job and not over charge I got the hook up.

    None.
If anyone knows a good shop in N. Virginia that will do the reroute at a reasonable price, please let me know. Thx

Just check around with your local muffler shops. The first guy I went to quoted me $200. The second guy came highly recommended by several different people and only charged $75. Guess which one I went to.
