I got rid of my 2005 manual transmission Tacoma last year, which I loved. I had to get a double cab to fit the kids in safely. I also had to get an automatic because the wife cannot drive a manual and the manuals are also becoming less prevalent. I have always hated how automatics shift, but the 2016 Tacoma is beyond horrible. Constantly feels like it is shifting up a gear when it should be down shifting or not shifting at all. Also shifting is not smooth and extremely delayed! I can't stand it. I drove a friends manual sport model which seems just fine, so I guess they just screwed up the automatics. Anyone know of any fixes?

Go to the dealer and ask for the TSB to be done. May or may not fix the problem. There's more than plenty of complaints on the 3rd gen auto.

You really should have done an Extended Test Drive of the Automatic, some guys can deal with that while others cannot, there are a couple TSBs you can go to the Dealer for.

My 2017 auto is fine. Drives and shifts like every other auto tranny I've ever driven. When I want to go faster I press the gas pedal and it does is thing. I dunno.

Sorry your not having an enjoyable experience OP....go drive another auto on the dealer lot and compare

The existing TSB's for the shifting will address SOME of the frustrations, but not all. The delayed shifting wasn't resolved with the latest TSB (not to be confused with the delayed engagement from P to D). Get the TSB's and see how you feel.

Idk. I think the truck itself is pretty nice. Just a crappy motor/tranny combo. Like one of the older 3.0L V6 models.

Not what I said. You could totally opt for a manual with the 3.5 and be happy. Or the 4cyl.

    Yeah there's fix!
At speeds below 45mph, use the S mode and press ect button, you'll then be driving an unrecognizable beast.
Or alternately, Use the manual mode and pretend you're driving a manual.
Oh and btw, the D mode is normal gas saving mode, works well for me, over 23mpg at 70+ give or take!
    Hope that helps!
    Cheers!
