10 pages on greasing u joints?
Just grease them regularly, the grease type is of little importance* if they get regular greasing.

*a lifted truck with increased driveshaft angle might warrant a grease "upgrade"

Relax guy's, a "pump" or 2 with each oil change of any type grease will keep your joint's happy for years!

My go-to guy for anything mechanical told me only pump grease until resistance is felt. If you pump enough to see the new stuff coming out you've blown the seals, not good. Except on open type bearings like a Dexter trailer bearing, then you want to have some come out.

Spicer recommends their Spicer® ultra-premium synthetic grease. Anything that's made to the same standards should be fine.

See above videos. Factory joints/shafts are Spicer.

Except those seals are pliable and meant to be the pressure relief point of the u-joint.

The best reason I can give is water intrusion. If the u-joints are full of water, then you need to pump them full of grease until the water is gone. How would you accomplish this if you stopped pumping once you felt resistance?

In fact, the entire point of a serviceable u-joint is that you can go in and keep it full of fresh grease, so that it doesn't need to be 100% sealed -- because you can keep pumping it clean as needed.

You might want to start taking that guy's advice with a grain of salt..

They (the seals) are also what keeps the grease IN. Repeated pressure from the "purging" technique would compromise them. (??) :notsure:
I only "pump" until I see a seal bulge (steering components) or until the first signs of it showing on a u joint, that is unless water and/or air start's popping out. Then it get's a heavy dose. I grease a LOT of driveshaft's, but most of them are on the driveline of some sort of "ag" equipment that sit's out in the rain & subject to much more severe shock loads & operating angles than in a stock vehicle would see. Water just does not show up in a "u-joint" cross from splashing or rain, long term submersion might with a well worn joint with bad seals.
