This exactly. At 4k miles my truck shifts way better than off the lot.

The auto tranny can't read your mind so tell it what to do with your right foot. I use S mode and sometimes ECT when I'm in the mountains and have no trouble finding the power. My truck has learned a bit about my driving and shifts beautifully.

So I drive my truck like an old lady back and forth to work. The trucks gonna think I'm like 85. So what's gonna happen when I'm in a hurry going someplace?

Same here. Almost 5k miles and I've had zero issues.

Not all six speeds are like the Tacoma. GM are similar, but better and the Honda Ridgeline is perfect.

Except the Ridgeline is the ugliest vehicle on the planet. So yeah I'm exaggerating but it looks TERRIBLE.

Some people have a hard time with the way this transmission/engine combo works. I just accepted it. I don't really have the hard shifting though.

Sucks people have to accept a trans that's not performing like trans of the past. The 4runner drivetrain is tits. They need to swap that bad boy to the tacoma.

Trade in for a 2015 V6 auto and get a real man's motor and million Mile transmission.

Recently drove a 2012 T4R 4.0L. Better powertrain refinement than the 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen.

Toyota apparently just puts more effort into the T4R.

I have always been a Tacoma fan. The truck is much improved inside, minus the boring computer screen. I get everyone is tired of hearing about the transmission issues but seriously, if your the one test driving the production model. How does this get a thumbs up? The manual is just fine so it's not the engine, strictly a damn computer issue

The truck has been out for almost 2 years now. I wouldn't wait 2 years for a fix much less 2 months if I had a problem with it.

They have made 2 attempts but we have no guarantee there is a third

OP, become more familiar with the modes of the transmission for various driving scenerios as this one is different from what you might have used in the past.

Here's a pic from the manual that outlines the different modes available.
    downloadfile.jpg
It says use D for best fuel economy in most driving situations, Power mode (ECT on) for more responsiveness, or Select mode to limit unnecessary upshifting. You can also use S mode in conjunction with ECT to make it a pretty responsive 4 or 5 speed truck.

Try it for a bit and see what you think, it works for me once I learned how to use it effectively.

Yes it's different but that seems to be how they designed it to be used. If you don't like the design, there's other trucks out there available with a more traditional automatic transmission.
