Places to Wheel: Alabama

I wanted a place to list wheeling parks, as well as trails that everyone may not know about. Click names to visit their websites (if there is one).

Please post up places you know, weather it be a power line road or any trail that others may enjoy! I'll update this post as needed!

North Alabama:

Morris Mountain ORV. Delta, Al.

Stoney Lonesome OHV. Cullman county, AL

Hawk Pride Mountain.Tuscumbia, Al.

Gray Rock ORV. Mt. Olive, AL

Hale Mountain OHV. New Market, Al.

Crusher Ridge Rock Crawler Park. Hartselle, Al.

Central Alabama:

Choccolocco Mountain. Jacksonville, AL

Great American Park. Auburn, Al.

The Slab. Shelby County Road 251, Montevallo. This is a Wildlife Management area, and I have yet to explore all of it. Everything from Mud, River Crossings, Rocks and Hill climbs. Take hwy 119 to cr 10 in montevallo, follow to cr251 and turn right. You will find the best trails on your left before you get to the actual slab. Coords to the slab from the 10 in Montevallo. 33.176534, -86.985864

South Alabama:

Boggs and Boulders.Brooklyn, Al.

they forgot uwharrie in one of the carolina's, cant remember which one right now. also ocala or whatever it is in florida.... which then again those may just simply be a list of structured ohv's and i think uwharrie and ocala are both wma that have kind of turned into parks from what ive seen.

Been there once, not a whole lot of trails but some pretty extreme ones. Fun to watch the rigs beat themselves up.

 

Thanks Paul. If any interest in a full list off parks and trails suddenly pops up, I'll update it as people post more. At the moment, there seems to be no interest, thanks for your updates though.

 

There is a place in Gallion Al. I think its called Big Rut or something like that. I haven't been to it so I don't know much about it.

 

Cahaba Wildlife refuge West Blocton Al. Hill climbs, water crossing, some rocks. Depending on recent weather can get very muddy.

Dave, quick suggestion.

Split it up in each regional section, having one subsection of organized/paying parks and one subsection of public accessible trails. This should give us (you) the opportunity to find quick, fun trails for a small group and keep updates readily available if the trails are bought by private entities and blocked off.

Also, as people go to these places, the rider should create a concise post detailing:

• Location (coordinates/address, screenshot from Earth/Maps, etc.)
• Pictures of the entrance to the trail head, pictures from the trail and any hazards, videos if available
• A quick write up of perceived difficulty
• edit: The link to the exact post that details the trail can also be added to the OP

IF THE TRAIL IS EXPLICITLY PRIVATE, DO NOT POST IT. You should not be on it without the land owner's consent.

 

I can add County Line in Arab to this list. I have photos from when I was there.

 

"County Line" in Arab/Ruth area:

disclaimer: there were some kids in high school that were arrested here (mainly for drinking), but I had heard rumors a few times (never confirmed) that police would occasionally show up out there and make people leave. I have never seen them. Never had any issues, and nobody ever said anything to me about being out there.

This is the entrance, the "trail" is actually Eagle Rock Dr, but smaller more difficult trails branch off of the road.

The main trail is a dirt road, passable in 2wd, with obstacles like below on the sides, also sections of mud and ruts if you feel like just messing around a bit. You do cross 2 larger water sections that after a large rain can get rather deep (never had it over my tires).


if you get off of the main path you can encounter some fun stuff, but be warned the paths are SMALL. More oriented for 4wheelers and Razors, but if you make it there are some pretty good locations like so:


I had to squeeze between a spot that both sliders rubbed on trees simultaneously to get to this location, and it was a tight turn for my DCSB.

haha I know, you're just the one that posted the bulleted list.

 

There's a trail off Ross Bridge Parkway in Hoover. Look for an ungated gravel turnoff (on the right if you're coming from 150).
It's a short trail that runs between neighborhoods and it's easy enough for beginners. There is mud and hill climbs. There are two trails sort of side by side. The upper trail has more dips and the bottom trail has a good bit of mud. I actually haven't tried that section yet. There are some offshoots I haven't checked out.
It's not worth making a trip to, but if you're in the area, it's fun.

 

Hey man, can you tell me more about The Slab? Is it appropriate for beginners? Are lockers recommended? Easy enough to go alone?

 

Dave, if you have the coordinates and trail head pics, I can DM you some of the trail pics we took whilst there (as a rain hazard example). I can also get you some vids.

 

yes for beginners, no lockers needed, yes easy to go alone. Just avoid the hard stuff. seems to be a place that involves a little of everything.

 

@Thunder Fist see above for reiteration of rain hazard. Go when dry. lol
