It should be covered no matter how many owners, as long as you are under the 6 years or 60k miles

Yeah, looks like the TOB won't be covered by my dealership as it is viewed as a wear item (along with a clutch). They did hear another noise coming from the transmission and are currently disassembling the entire transmission to find out what is causing the noise. They told me that this work should be covered as it is the power train. Good times though...

I actually have a friend that is a lawyer. I think I am going to ask him what we can do, if anything.

Please do. I have actually been thinking about contacting some big newspapers, such as the LA times, and present them with this as a possible story. Figure they would like to add more gasoline to the fire on all the toyota bashing.

Not sure how much help someone in the law profession would be, but maybe they could give us some pointers? I guess it will be a starting point.

I think we need to come up with a document to send to all of the major news stations and soon. They are loving this Toyota recall thing and I'm sure they are dying to get some more "dirt" on Toyota. I think this could very well help us out. Toyota did do a buy-back program with the frame rot because it was a huge quality issue. I think this transmition issue is right up there along with the failing motor mount problem that seems to also be rearing its ugly head. Hell, at least pay for the damn labor to fix this stuff for us that are just out of warranty. I don't mind buying the parts!

I actually did write a letter to Toyota experience center just before the gas pedal issue came about. I never heard back.

So, how do you guys want to do this? Maybe those of you who are tactful writers can send me something via e-mail and then I can put it all together a final document and then proceed to the next step.

I got tired of fighting my dealership so i bit the bullet and had it fixed on my dime last week. My 06 has 40k on it now, been sqeakin' since 33K. With an oil change as well it ran me 368.00. Worth every penny though. My mechanic said the pilot shaft was slightly gouged so he polished it up. Now its like driving a whole new truck. No squeaking and shifting from first to second 100% easier and smoother. And the clutch pedal itself feels like butter.

It pisses me off that eventually i will have to replace this one too. Poor quality and engineering on Toyota's part.

This is a lil' long winded but bear with me...So I just bought my 05 last week and so far I love the truck. Anyway before I ever drove up to look at it, the seller told me that the TO bearing needed replaced. The price was right on the truck so I contacted the local Toyota dealer to find out the cost of the fix. The service advisor told me that this was a common problem that would be covered under the powertrain warranty and he advised that I should probably go ahead and replace the clutch at the same time(shared labor etc..).I told him that I would contact him after I bought the truck and make an appt. to have it done. So I bought the truck with 59000 miles on it but after driving it for a couple of days, there was none of the noise that was supposed to accompany the problem. I took it to the dealership for service and they didn't detect any squeal either . 500 miles later and still no sign of the problem! I have no idea why the guy selling me the truck would tell me it had this issue but I have had no problem with it. I am about to pass the 60k mark (It does have the toyota 6 yr/75k extended warranty) and am just a bit perplexed about the whole deal. can the sound just go away for awhile?

The original powertrain warranty is 60k. The Toyota platinum extended warranty is 75k. Just from reading over it, it doesn't appear that that original PT covers anything that that the extended doesn't.

Yeah Toyota genuine parts t.o. bearing (78.00) (25.00 for the oil change). The rest of the cost was all labor. Not sure exactly how long it took but i dropped it off before work and it was ready when i was done. (Not done at dealership)
Mechanic said everything else looked good

I have no idea but that was the first thing i noticed (besides no squeak). There used to be a loud 'clunk' and somewhat of a jolt, especially if i was in accelerating fast. It is just way smoother now. i had never driven stick before this truck so i just figured it was me?

    Not going to brag.
Had mine in a year ago. They greased the TO Bearing and called it good. Noise went away.

Noise came back this winter. Set my appointment up to take it in and the noise went away. Took it in regardless, but they refused to look at it unless it was squeaking. I'm just waiting for the squeak to return.
