Automatic Headlight conversion - can it be done?

Similar to how others have been able to put intermittent wipers on their Taco's easily. I have been wondering if the same could be done to put automatic headlights on the taco? I know a sensor would have to be put in on the passenger side, but didn't know if it would be an easy swap of the headlight arm on the steering column and put in the sensor.

Thoughts?

I've never had a problem figuring out when I need headlights, so haven't looked into it.

I did have problems making my wipers move slower, so that's why I did the intermittents.

No. I tried installing the sensor and swapping the switch and it doesn't work. Techstream reads the light level but the main body ecu won't react and unfortunately techstream can't turn it on either. I looked at all the screens. Seems it is hidden in the locked part of the ecu and Toyota only allows reflashing when the vin shows an update for that ecu. So even if you also changed the main body ecu it still might not work.

Wut? Aren't those features standard? Guess not. It's like people posting non-HD videos on YouTube in 2017: it shouldn't happen.

 

I think once you cross $30k base price then it should be...

 

There's an aftermarket solution that may work. I've installed these on some of my previous vehicles and it worked pretty well.

So, mine are switched on 24/7 with the timed shutoff when ignition turned off.

Just drive with them day and night... that's automatic right?

 

That is just auto off. If you leave the headlights on all the time, all of the displays inside the truck will be dim because they are in "night mode". On true auto headlights, there is a sensor that turns them on when it gets dark enough and off when it's too bright for headlights. You turn them to auto and it automatically switches between dlr and lights on.
