What does everyone think about steering wheel covers? Do you use them? Why?

No - most are made of cheap rubber. The leather on the steering wheel works best to absorb natural oils/moisture from your hands.

I actually got a small cut in the bottom part of my steering wheel leather. I don't like the covers but found that you can wrap some paracord and get a pretty nice look out of it. Plus I wont have to do the whole wheel, just the bottom part. Might want to consider that option.

Actually i haven't done it yet. I just got the cut the other day. Ordered the paracord yesterday. I have watched a few videos of it now and decided on the axe handle wrap. I'll post back once done.

I'm interested to see how the taco steering wheel will hold up over time. After 10 years on my last truck, the steering wheel tore open and I constantly got this black tarry goo all over my hands.

I love my wheelskins. Here's my installation post from about a month ago.

This ^^. You can get the colors you want, perforated or not. They can even send you samples so you know what you are getting. I like how it makes the steering wheel thicker.

Not a fan of steering wheel covers. I could be surprised some day, but have found them to look cheap. Something I put on my car when I was a teenager. But, just my opinion.

You could have it wrapped professionally but that would have some down time removing the wheel and waiting for it to be done. It would look like oem or better though. I think the cost is $250-500 ish depending on who does it.

I like the stock leather covering just fine. I actually notice much less hand fatigue and cramping after long drives, than I experienced with my previous vehicle. If it aint broke .... why fix it.

last car forum at the R32 world there was a guy who sent his wheel to a shop who professionally covered it with black Alcantara and red stitching... looked like a factory deal from Ferrari or something, really nice work. 3-5 day turn around and $275. if i was gonna treat my wheel that's how I'd do it.

Did a wheel skins on my dodge and I'm really happy with it. Of course it's not factory but this truck is far from perfect and the cover feels way better than the oem leather that was breaking down and feeling a little sticky. I've installed one before this and it was good to have the experience under my belt. It's good to know when to use double stitches to lock/ hold the stitch when making transitions across the wheel supports(don't know the technical name).

If you order wheel skins get them to give you extra long lacing so you do a baseball stitch

So here is my first try at paracord. I think it came out well. Only took about 10 min of fooling with it then it went quick. Next try I think I can make the knots clearer. Its on a quick deploy axe handle wrap also.

So far so good with the leather, great quality. The top of the cover is a tad bit lighter due to the sun and my hands rubbing on it. Next time I'll have the color on the sides and black above and below.
