Last weekend's project was a power tailgate control to operate the lock without the key. Very useful when you have a hard tonneau cover and you want to lock the tailgate to prevent theft of goodies inside or the tailgate itself which I understand has become quite prevalent. The solenoid made by Pop&Lock is installed inside the tailgate (see You Tube videos for the pictorials). One Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyzdTEV_sBI. Another: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8ZOQpLNq68. Several mistakes are made by the posters but the basic gist of the content is correct. I ran the long cable into the cab via the soft rubber boot under the passenger seat (like the second video) and up to the connector behind the passenger side kick plate. Keep it away from the exhaust and it will zip tie to the backup camera cable. It will route beneath the sill protector which gets removed in order to remove the kick plate anyway. It is much easier than going in through the engine bay as shown in the first video. There are only two wires to splice behind the kick plate and the connector and the wires are correctly identified in the videos. The short cable from the solenoid itself in the tailgate is easiest to route through center drain hole and center rectangular hole of the stiffening frame. It is where you would insert the spare tire lowering rod. The first video poster specified the connections behind the kick plate backwards. Either way will work but you would need to reverse the wires in the tailgate if at first the solenoid operates backwards. That happened to me. Luckily I had not buttoned up the tailgate yet. The correct part number for the actuator kit from Pop&Lock is PL 8535. Check Amazon or eBay. Was around $85. It says for Tundra but it is right for the Tacoma. It is a very worthwhile mod but keep the key in your center console for safety. Won't post a video since the two links I shared show it operating as advertised.

As much as I dislike plastic "chrome," the front works for me. Those damn rear bumper caps, though, they look lame.

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

Finally installed my light bar--a 30 inch Rigid Radiance, a dual function bar with main LEDs and a separate backlight. It is a "more affordable" Rigid product but adheres to Rigid's quality and build. Won't say the price I paid here so as not to upset any vendors out there but check around. "Sidetracked", a TW member is a great source. Cable sold separately. Details of the install are in other threads too but summarizing I went a different route after some frustration trying to mount it on the crash bar. I only had the Rigid mounting brackets and using the crash bar would not get the bar into the correct position without some major engineering or different brackets. I decided to hang it from the hood support cross brace. Besides the Rigid brackets all I needed were a couple mending bars from the local ACE hardware along with some basic stainless bolts, etc. I pointed the Rigid brackets inward, attached the mending bars and used existing holes in the cross brace to hang it in place. Added an extra bolt on either side for safety. It fit perfectly in the slot above the bumper and below the grille surround where most other light bars go. The wiring run is complete and into the cab but waiting on switches for smoke test. The pics show the plastic shipping wrap still on as I left it on for protection until all the jockeying was done.

OME lift, TRD Pro grill, Classio seat covers, 265/75/16 BFG AT's. Can't wait to mount the FWC in the garage in the back ground.

I spent the evening going through the silver and mag gray threads and saving pics of trucks I liked. This was one of them. Most of the trucks I liked have the Pro grill. It makes a dramatic difference in the look of a stock OR or Sport. It will be my first mod.

Here are just a few of the trucks I liked starting with a relatively stock OR and ending with a relatively stock Sport.

I am comparing the two colors because I am seriously considering the mag gray even though I've always had silver trucks, suv's and most of my sports cars.

Those are all sharp looking trucks. As far as the Pro grille goes, I have mine sitting in a box in front of me. I pick up my 2017 dbl cab long bed in silver this Saturday, and the first mod is the grille.

Jeez that pro grille looks so much better than the stock. I suppose I need to just break down and buy it. The plastidip is starting to peel off mine after a couple of washes.
