9mm ARs

You guys see these 9mm ARs that run on Glock Mags? They look kinda sweet. Would be very cheap to shoot vs 5.56.

Why do I want every gun I see? It's a problem.

 

I'd love to have one. So fun and stupid cheap to shoot.

 

This also is another reason I want a Glock. So many guns use their mags.

 

I have a New Frontier Armory 80% lower but haven't milled it yet. I was waiting for their proprietary upper to be back in stock but it's been sold out for years LOL. It's basically so the bolt locks back on the last round. I've got a bunch of friends that have the same lower that ended up just getting a 9mm upper and didn't care about the lock back. They absolutely love the 9mm ARs. It's pretty cool other vendors are coming out with 9mm ARs now. Back when I bought my lower it was only New frontier that offered the glock mag one.

 

I've been considering one of those 80% lowers. Mostly for the challenge of making my own AR with my hands. My buddy just bought a mill, so I may take on the challenge.

Currently I'm in AK mode. I picked on an AK74 (very similar round to 5.56). I love it. But, I really really want to add an AR to my collection. The idea of 9mm being cheap and abundant appeals to me.

IDK, maybe I should just get one of those 22 Aks, that would be super cheap too. You guys saw the 22 MP5 I posted right? It's bad ass and under $300. Talk about cheap plinking.

Back to the point, a cheap plinking gun would be great to have. 5.45 x 39 is about $7 for every mag. I go through. Not terrible, but that does add up.

I have a mill as well. I use a Modulus Arms jig with the mill and can knock out lowers in about an hour.

I have a GSG which is the 22lr MP5 clone but haven't shot it. I've had it for 8 years now LOL. 22 is fun but prefer it out of my 10/22. I also have a 22lr AR and am on the fence about selling it. I love 22lr but every since the price went up on it I stopped shooting it. It's was pretty hard to get 22 out here in cali for a while so I ended up stock piling.

I bought a AK receiver but just haven't had the time to attempt to finish it. Back when I started this hobby parts were decently priced but now I can spend a couple hundred more and just buy and AK.

You're right though, for plinking you can't beat using 22 or 9mm. Do you reload? @Doughnut Spaghetti

Nice! I've never milled my own, so I imagine it won't be that quick for me, probably hours haha!

Never got into reloading. May be a good time too.

I really should just pick up some kinda 22 or 9mm variant. Can hone my skills without breaking the bank. Looks like you have a lot of choices for under $300 if you go 22.

After I finish setting up my Tacoma it's time for a new gun! My girls gonna love that hahahaha!

I guess I'm in the minority in this thread then. I don't like handgun caliber rounds in a rifle; specifically an AR15 platform. For me, the primary problem is compactness. As in you give it all away. If I'm building something with a buffer tube it better have a reason to be there (read: rifle round). I like my handgun rounds in handguns for their dexterity & mobility which is where those calibers shine. If I have a desire for more control at the cost of mobility & compactness I'll SBR something & build a non-FA SMG. Something designed from the ground up specifically for that configuration. Fold the stock, throw it in a tiny pack & go. Never understood the desire to build a 9mm AR15 but that's just me. My opinion is worth about as much as you paid for it though.

 

The fact that you get to basically practice with something that is very similar in form and function to the real thing and not have to spend as much is why there are becoming more popular. Definitely, not a replacement to the real thing, but still is going to help hone your skills.

 

These ATI GSG AK-47 22s are really interesting me.

 

I've had them too. I own none now. In fact, I had plans to do one of the 9mm conversion kits on one of my Tavors when they came out. I realized I would absolutely hate changing back & forth (I'm the guy who hates to change even QD suppressors between hosts & just buys dedicated cans) so I was going to buy another Tavor (OD green this time) dedicated to 9mm. Fortunately I applied a little common sense & realized that I was about to invest $3k in a firearm that was 2x heavier & longer than my SBR'd Scorpion & did nothing more.

I just fail to see the point. If you're saying ammo cost then your 'training' better be punching holes in paper at 25yds & in. If you're trying to shoot at any distance there is virtually no carry over other than weapon manipulation which can be done mostly dry in your living room.

In my experience I think if the goal is 9mm there are much better ways to go about it. Hell, I'd rock a Glock 17 over a 9mm AR15 for a fraction of the price. I'd have a compact, lightweight & easy to manipulate system and to anyone on the business end the lead coming at them is identical.

 

If you're on a budget and can get pistol and a rifle that only uses both the same magazines and ammo, that appeals to a lot of people. Of course, 9mm is not going to compare to the real thing, but it's gonna go further coming out of a longer barrel. And, if all you're after is some target practice if not a terrible option.

I didn't look at the cost of the rifle in the video, but if it's $3k no way would be consider it. If it's five or six hundred bucks, that wouldn't be bad.

 

This would be easy on the wallet, would love one of these.
