New Tires Rubbing-need fix

I have a 2008 Taco Sport. I purchased BF Goodrich MK2 285/70/17. I was told that all I needed was a leveling kit for the tires to fit. I installed a 2.5" front level kit(spacer) and ended up with the first problem-front is taller than the rear! Once the new tires were mounted and placed on the truck we found out they rub the wheel well. Does anyone have a solution for this?

You probably have to remove the front mud flaps, trim the fender liner in the front of the wheel well, and trim the fender at the rear where it curves in. Basically just turn the wheels and get out and look where it may be rubbing

 

I'm sure you're about to get hit with the "use the search" whip, but since this is your first post and only my 9th, I'll leave that to someone else. I've been researching this site non-stop since picking up my '10 Tacoma a month ago.

I'm going to assume you have stock wheels and you're probably rubbing the upper control arm. The cheepest solution up front would be to order 1.25" spacers, you'll need hubcentric. Get them all around though, or it'll look like a Civic dragster. Spidertrax are the most popular recommendation and many seem to run those. With 285s, you'll have to remove your front mud flaps and there will still be a need to do very minor inner fender trimming.

If you haven't had the TSB done, where the dealer changes out the rear 3-leaf pack for a 4-leaf, the stock rake on the truck is about 1.75". The TSB adds about .5" to 1" of height. So if you went 2.75" up front, it will be higher on that end. With the TSB, you'll be close to level. However, to truly level it back out, you'll need an add-a-leaf (preferred method) or a block.

I've gained all this knowledge from the search feature in researching my setup. Not being a prick, but if you look around here long enough, you almost never need to post for info requests.

Thanks for all the great replies. I have went ahead and trimmed the wheel fenders on the inside and removed the mudflaps. It stopped rubbing there but I notice there is a piece of the frame in the direction of the rear that will potentially rub when off roading. I think I will have to just order a 3" lift for the front to keep it from hitting. I did have to get new rims with a -12 offset that pulled it away from the control arm so no issues there. I have a 1.5" block ordered and on its way for the rear. I didnt do the add a leaf because I figured it would make the ride a little to rough.

 

What is the TSB? is that leaf replacement some kind of recall?

TSB stands for technical service bulletin. Its not a recall. If you bring your truck to toyota and tell them you have a harsh ride while under load they will replace your rear leaf springs with a four pack. It raises the rear of your truck about an inch.

 

Ok, I just called the dealership and unfortunately I have 38,000 miles and it was only covered to 36,000. If I want to pay for them they are $630 per leafspring. Hell for that I might as well order some Deaver leafs.

 

Not a big deal. Sorry to hear that you're out of warranty. You don't necessarily need the TSB, but it would have helped you achieve something closer to level without shelling out money. I'd recommend looking into an add-a-leaf from toytec or wheelers. 2" should get you where you want to be.

 

I just ordered a 1.5" block and hopefully it will do the trick. I am guessing doing both would look a little weird.
