it looks like they modded the stock tailgate with the bottom of the 3rd gen tailgate. looks like a very clean job

Looks good but I've heard its made out of very thin fiberglass. Can't confirm if its true or not. (Being thin) but it is fiberglass.

It is becoming increasingly obvious to me that I am much older than many here. Though in my youth I customised many vehicles I now find I have no problem with this--it requires no effort and it's free:

At this stage of life I am becoming more and more an adherent of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy...

Balderdash. Your interests have shifted, other priorities have taken precedence in time and resources. If you've done it in the past, you've still got the creative spark.

That said, changing a complete body over to glass, for nothing more important than current fashion is a poor allocation of time and resources to me, also. We all have our priorities.

Gotta admire someone seeing a market for this, and running with it. Also shows that Toyota was pretty much very conservative in the 3rd gen 'redesign', if it's pretty much a simple re-skin to get a clone 3rd Gen., while retaining all the good bits that make up a 2nd Gen.

i know a guy from puerto rico that actually uses the oem 3rd gen tailgate and takes it apart, just having the skin and works with your original tailgate to make it look like the one in the picture.

That’s indeed a 3rd Gen Tailgate, i am from PR, currently im in Connecticut. The job is a little hard but not impossible, if im not wrong, the cut it from the top, re-do the top end and then fit right in. I will get more info and pictures about it. I have seen it in a couple of Taco’s already.

If I had a 3rd gen, I would actually consider making a 2nd gen tailgate for it. Kind of like my sliding rear window, I’d like to put a solid one on there like the older Tacomas had. I guess it’s just personal preference.

Any Mods? One. Maybe two, tops...
I like mine completely clean and smooth - lately all manufacturers are stamping the metal on the tailgates, I personally like the clean smooth look...
