Well, these shoes were $150, but if you count up the 4 other pair I bought to get to this point, then....
    She's always right.
At least I have good self esteem.
That's the Goretex part in my write-up. That depends on how waterproof you think Goretex is. I believe "water resistant" is the right phrase to use here.
They are abnormally wide, but it feels amazing. I don't want any part of my shoe's toebox to touch any of my toes. My little toe, in particular.

This pic, and the others above, show the width of the toe box prettly clearly. It's also an oblong toebox so your big toe has more room than the others. Balance is amazing in these.

If I get the permit, I'm going down North Kaibab to Cottonwood canpground the first day. Then Day 2 I'll go to Bright Angel, and Day 3 up to Indian Garden. Bad thing about going all the way to Bright Angel in 1 day is that it's a 14 mile hike down. Worst thing is that if you go up in 1 day is it's a 14 mile hike up.

Yes, the little toe is the problem with me. I like my Salomons but they rub my damn little toe. It's not really bad enough to cause large problems (yet) but damn it is annoying. I'll be watching these for a sale.

Unfortunately Altras don't really ever go on sale unless they're clearing out a previous model. But, you will eliminate the little toe crowding issue, that's for sure.

This is just west of Bishop this weekend...

The Kern River area is clear and beautiful right now.

Luggage? Our dog takes up most of the back seat, so clothes end up in the bed.

I've been stuffing our clothes into Rubbermaid storage totes, but they're really awkward....any recommendations on big budget dry bags or weather proof duffels?

I "try" to keep all stuff short of passengers in the bed to reduce cab clutter. The family is slowly following suit. With two adults, a fast growing boy and a German Shepherd it gets crowded fast when someone tries to bring a couple bags up front with us.

North Face Base Camp Duffel. It's not water Proof but damn close.

Patagonia makes a similar one, Black Hole Duffel.

Black Diamond makes a climbers haul bag that's nearly bombproof (but I don't know the model name)

I picked up some Pelican Storm cases to keep gear dry that doesn't fit in the back seat. I scored them at a local reseller of used cases down in the 'hood. im2750's were a great fit as expo boxes for me, and they were only $35 each. I swooped up 2. Would make great waterproof clothes "suitcases" for you and probably another person in one case.

When I was there, he had like 30 of them left and says he usually gets them in. I got the OD green ones, but he also had some black ones. I told him to call me if he ever gets tan in stock. These guys carry everything from old small wooden military cases to the big huge pallet size drop-out-of-a-plane ones. Odd shapes, all are used but in pretty good to excellent condition, and most are bought from military auctions with custom foam in them that I just pull out. Makes for awesome expo cases at insane prices (like 60-80% off of retail). I spent 2 hours in his warehouse last time I was there.
