My 2000 V6 is my first and only car. I discovered today the frame is rotting out, is this safe?

Maybe you should jack up the truck a little, put two jack stands right underneath where the frame broke in the previously referenced picture, jump up and down in the bed till it breaks (again like in picture) then go, you think this is safe, dad?

I'm appalled that Toyota did such a shit job with the frames. I mean really, that thing is fucking MINT. BUT NO, THE FRAME IS CRAP.

tell him to google tacoma frame rot and show him the first thousand images. your truck is screwed. a good welder can box the frame and repair it but since you live in wisconsin like me, most likely the entire frame is shot. at this point I would look into selling the truck whole to someone for parts. Or part it out.

Your vehicle is not road worthy in that condition. It's a danger to you and possible other vehicles on the road should there be a catastrophic failure of the frame while moving.

You are out of the 15 year extended warranty period for your model year. 2000s were bought back by toyota because replacement frames were no longer available for the 1995.5-2000 model years. I owned a 2000 which was bought back in 2010. These frames can be repaired though. Search through the frame threads an you will see examples of the repairs. Most would agree that they are worth saving in most cases. Good luck.

Edit: Many will mistakenly refer to the extended warranty/frame rust service campaign as a recall. This is not a recall (which would fall under all kinds of regulations), but a voluntary action taken by Toyota. It's debatable as to whether this action was broad enough to help the largest number of Tacoma owners.

It is quite possible the OP`s father is quite clueless or has taken a very large life insurance policy and is hoping to cash in.

I can`t say so this is just speculation but that did not get that bad between your last oil change maybe the OP is the quicky mart type .

Since the OP most likely can`t fix this problem themselves or would have just done so before it got to this stage.

Pay a few thousand or sell the truck as is you might get more attempting to part it out but your time removing parts can really add up

Park it immediately! Your well beyond the 15 year time frame for help from Toyota. Either repair the frame, scrap it, part it out or sell as is with full disclosure.

I wouldn't let my exwife drive that. Let alone my kid. Your dad has no clue. Get a professional opinion if you have to, to convince your dad.

Only a misguided social justice warrior would park in front of a private business that had nothing to do with the manufacturing of the product. It's now a 17 year old truck

Show your father this thread, the frame is so bad that Toyota might be able to do something about it with the recall

Everybody is over reacting. Just avoid pot holes. And speed bumps. And speeds above 30km/hr. And your dad.

Pack it full of bondo and wrap some duct tape around it. Maybe brace it with some 2x4's and self tapping screws.

Seriously it's completely fucked and is absolutely not road-worthy in that condition...
