OBA -> On Board Air Mega Thread & BS

I've only got a 4gal tank and it airs up my tires great. Much faster than using just a compressor. I haven't tried it from 0-30psi, but that wouldn't be a common occurrence.

 

Can you Elaborate on this?

I can imagine it having subtle limitations but I would imagine a few gallons being better than none. Specifically for air tools. I guess I wouldn't mind just using the pump for the lockers and airing up and skipping the tank.

 

The main purpose for a small manifold is to provide ports for multiple necessities like:
pressure switch, pressure gauge, pressure relief valve, and air lines to the tank and/or quick-disconnects.

 

The ARB manifold has ports for both front/rear locker solenoids and other in/out ports. It's also a very small air tank, I'd say <1/2 gallon.
Yes, a tank is better than no tank, a 1-3 gallona tank will not magically make air tools run like they do on a Home/Shop compressor.

 

For anyone that is interested, I was able to fit the ARB Dual Compressor into the first gen's passenger cubby. I'll post up some more pics once I finish the wiring and plumbing.

 

Im looking to replace the hose on my MV50 with a new longer one.

I plan on ditching the compressor mounted gauge and tapping the compressor head to 1/4 NPT to run a standard quick connect fitting and to plug the gauge hole.

I want to move the gauge to the hose end.

I came across these - http://www.viaircorp.com/air-hoses/braided_coilhose_5in1/ and it seems to be everything I want.

Does anyone use one of these hoses?

I could probably DIY a slightly less refined version of this set up with a quick connect, coiled hose, T fitting, gauge, and lock on air chuck.

Any thoughts?

 

To be quite honest, most people that have the MV50 and mod it a little, end up upgrading to a better air compressor (myself included). If you're going to spend money, maybe think of spending it more efficiently? I mean, I don't wanna tell you what to do, but I wasted money on modding my MV50 before finally upgrading, and if I could help a fellow member in saving the time and money, I would.

The time it takes to fill up all tires correctly (I say that bc I would fill up my tires without taking duty cycle into account) takes a looong time. I'm surprised it didn't blow up on me several times.

 

If setup with good cooling airflow, 10-15 mins (3min+ per tire) isn't going to hurt these cheap compressors.

I already have it so I'm sticking with it for now. I don't plan on using it every weekend to air up and down. 99% of the places I end up do not require airing up and down. It's more for emergencies/inflating a patched tire in the woods/the occasional air down/up if need be/pressurizing a camp shower & water jug.

The most off-roading I do is hunting, fishing, and camping related. It's done mostly on forest roads.

All my research shows it should be more than adequate for this. If I was wheeling every weekend and needed to air up and down multiple times, I'd do a much more elaborate setup.

I may eventually add a small tank and pressure switch to make it a closed system, but for the time being an open system is more than enough for my needs.

 

Well, I think I got my filler hose situated for the MV50.

I just need to find a good, accurate air pressure gauge now - preferably one with a 3/8 NPT fitting. Any suggestion on brands?

 

5 gallon tank mounted under where others have put theirs. No issues. Just build the system to have redundant safeties in case of a puncture to the tank.

Got around to mounting mine yesterday but need to finish wiring (easy part). I placed it behind the rear seat in a DCSB. Mounted on a piece of aluminium. Pretty clean install and everything went smooth thanks to this thread.

 

Where can you buy SS braided air hose by the foot?

A bit of a revival here I know you have you're tire mounted on you're bumper but would it stil be able to fit underneath likes pretty flush

 

No the tank took the place of the tire. If you had a smaller tank you might be able to get away with mounting it in a different place under the bed, but probably not where the spare is.

The manifold is needed for sure. The F/R locker solenoids thread into it and on each end of it, there is an available outlet/ plug for filling the external tank if one is needed.
My DS slider is used as an air tank which is approximately 6.5cuft.
I air up and run my air tools with zero issues.

EDIT: I meant to say gallons for the slider quantity... good call Sandman.

One slider, 6.5ft³ I find that hard to believe.

You are correct... I meant gallon, my typo.
The complete DS slider is air tight and each tube does hold air. Had to make them myself due to nothing available for the RC at the time.
