normbal, I had to take my truck into the stealership for analysis which was fine because I was one of the few who were bottoming out and could prove it.

I wrote a detailed account of my rear spring TSB experience in this thread here:

Positive Rear Spring TSB Experience by Coke

I hope you find it helpful.

Is there really a chance of getting this rear spring TSB done if you have lifted the truck? Just SwayAways and blocks on a 2007 but I assume they won't touch it because of the lift. It's still in warranty but does a TSB mean the dealer has to do the work?

KJW, Yes. Dealer does all of the work and is reimbursed by the factory.

I would bring the truck in loaded if possible.
Mention the harsh ride you are experiencing when loaded.
Express your safety concerns, especially when hauling a load.

I doubt that they will refuse you, but if they do, try to get the above complaints documented on your receipt along with any names you can get.
Then, if you need to move up the Toyota food chain you will have this visit well documented.

    Good luck !

Wow! funny thing...I'd been hauling dirt and sand for a backyard project for a month and I parked the truck at work today (2010 4x4 Dbl Cab Sport) and the back end was lower than the front. Cheers for this!!

New to the forum, just had my trans tsb done monday, wondering about this one. Mine rides well but I haven't had the chance to load it yet. I made a copy of the tsb just in case. Any comments? Looks like the new ones are 4 leaf packs. Are the current ones weak?

I have a 2009 dbl cab prerunner and I had my springs replaced. I went to Home Depot and bought 10 - 80lbs bags of concrete, loaded them up and drove 2 miles to dealer. I did not have an appointment, just drove up and told them that this truck could not haul anywhere near what the toyota says. I explained that I was only carrying 60% of the rated cargo carring capacity and was bottomed out. The service guy looked under the truck at the springs and said you are right. He called his manager over and I explained to him that a friend told me that the springs needed replaced per a toyota TSB. He said ok and would order the new springs and call me when they were in.

I returned the concrete to home depot and a week later got the springs done.

My reaction: I am glad I did it, I now own a real truck that can haul and tow. The ride is alot stiffer, however, it is a truck. Over all it is still a nice ride. All that being said, if I had lots of money and could afford to spoil myself, I would have kept the softer springs and added air bags to the back. By putting airbags on you would still have a softer ride when empty and when you are hauling, just pump up the bags for more cargo carrying capacity. My bosses have trucks set up like this and it is the way to do it right. If I had a 4x4 and used it, bags is the only way to go. For the rest of us poor folks, do as I did and get the 80lbs bags of concrete and go straight to you dealer service dept. Don't waste your time calling any one. The people who answer the phone's only job is to get you to go away. If you goto all the trouble to get the truck loaded up then they know you are serious about getting it done.

Fyi: by using the concrete, you will have verifible weight in the back. 10 x 80 = 800lbs. Also, before leaving Home Depot, check your springs and see if they are on the bumpers. The rated capacity for my truck is 1300 or 1350 lbs. I was good at 800lbs, you might need 1000 or more. either way, the dealer cant argue with the math.

    Good luck.

I forgot to mention in prior post - I have about 10k Miles on truck since getting springs done last sept.

Also, I am going to say it again... if you haul or tow anything of real weight, get the springs done at no cost to you OR put air bags on rear. The factory springs are for a nice ride as most customers only care about that. People that use the truck like it was intended will be sorry if they don't do something.

I got under mine, 2010 4X4 AC, last night with a bright flashlight and took a good look at the rear suspension. On the drivers side you could tell where the rubber bumper has ever so slightly rubbed and removed the dust from above. Also on the passenger side the shock was showing white metal rubbing where the smaller diameter goes into the larger portion. Not sure if this is a shock problem or due to the weaker leaf springs, but does not seem right. Got about 6500 miles on the new truck.

I called a dealer today and he gave me a song and a dance about the whole thing. They want to inspect first.

I have a 2010 SR5 4X4 with 2000 miles, called dealer today, they said they would order the springs and shocks for me to bring it in Monday. Too easy, of course I have bought 2 new Tacoma's and a Matrix in the last 2 years from them.

Gray Beauty, if you have your stock leaf springs on your truck, then you would qualify for the TSB. If you have aftermarket springs to go with your 6" lift then the answer is no.

I was told by dealer, that if I modified my suspension, it would void my warranty. Haven't done anymore checking into than that.

Can someone please have a look at this photo and tell me if this has been done yet? I bought this truck used. I'm not sure if that is 4 leafs, or 3 leafs and a support.

    Thanks

    Kram, Yours looks done.

Not exactly true. It may affect the warranty as it relates to the parts you took out, but it will not affect the warranty on the truck as a whole. Obviously if you add aftermarket parts to your truck, and they are somehow responsible for causing damage to other components of your truck, the dealer may refuse to replace the worn/bad parts under warranty.

OK then let's take the truck over to DCH Toyota in Simi (who has been sending me lots of letters that they would love to fix the recalls) and see if they will change the springs out for me.

One other question....Is anyone getting squeaks in there truck that this spring change fixes?
