What is your favorite caliber for a pistol?

I dont think there is such thing as a useless cartridge. Not even a 22. Not sayin thats what I would carry, just because it might take more than 1 shot to do the job. But I think anything bigger than that will do the job just as good as the other. Would you rather get shot with a .40 or a .45, .357, 9mm etc.... I choose none of the above. They will all kill.

 

If I could only have one handgun, it'd be a S&W 357 revolver, probably a 4" in a K or L frame, or a 5" N-frame.

Actually, when I was a lad my dad gave me a 6 1/2" N-frame Smith for Christmas one year, and I used/carried that gun for a decade before I began to add to my armory. Great all-around gun.

1911 Colt chambered in 45 ACP for the auto. (Self defense).
22 rim fire (All around cheap fun).
357 Magnum Smith & Wesson 2" 66 (Versatility with ammo, and big punch small package).
41 Magnum Smith & Wesson 6" 657 (Hunting).

 

I like my Glock 19 compact just that its great to carry and its a durable gun for backpacking and its fairly light and 9mm is cheap to get.
But for seriousness if its knockdown you want I have a good one for that, Its My .500 S&W Thompson Arms Encore with a 700 grain cast bullet.

 

9mm. Very effective.

 

I love my .40 the best, but I only ever buy .40 or .45 no 9mm for this guy.

My favorite caliber is 22LR, since all my shooting is plinking and target shooting and it's cheap.

Also like my .44 Mag for when I want to make some noise while plinking.

I have a .40 Sig P226 but it's used for plinking as well LOL kinda dumb use for a .40 Sig P226 but the gun cost too much to leave it out of the safe 24/7.

I use a S&W .38 special snubby for HD use. when I get done modding my Mossberg, I might take it out of the safe and use that as HD too but my go to first would be the snuby because it never fails to fire.

 

That is one HELL of a NICE gun and a .50 cal to boot. Is that custom or did you buy it like that?

I have 4 .45's and 3 9MM. 9's are good for plinking, but when you mean business
the 45's with hollow points are the only way to go. After renewing my CCW permit the instructor brought out his steel targets and everything from .380s to 41 mags went through the course. most of the time the .380s, 38s and sometimes the 9s would not knock the steel over. You sure knew when the .45s hit.

.357 because of the versatility that you can shoot .38's and .357's. I personally wouldn't carry with .357's loaded because they will go right through a person and possibly cause collateral damage. .38 JHP's are a perfect carry round for me.

For semi-auto's I like the .380 for CCW. For ex. the Ruger LCP, it's small and very concealable yet will still kill with a .380 if need be. If ammo was free, I'd go with a .45ACP for open carry, but I'm still partial to revolvers because they just won't jam unless you do something ridiculously crazy.

9mm is probably my favorite. Cheap to shoot, exceptionally accurate, but can definitely do the job as far as defense from anything on two legs if it's loaded right. And in the words of a crazy ass Navy SEAL:

"You think 9mm won't do anything? Well when I put two rounds through your heart and one through your head, you won't know the difference...and neither will the enemy."

 

That makes my .44 mag look like a pea shooter.
