How does one tell if their rear axle has abs brakes or not besides pulling the axle shafts?

2001 tacoma prerunner with e locker for reference.

I have an '03 5VZ-FE, and it has a bottom half to the fan shroud. I actually just had to buy new clips for it, the old ones vanished in my garage somewhere. I drove around without a lower shroud for a couple of weeks, didn't seem to hurt anything. But, on the other hand, someone at Toyota thought you needed it....

Because you would end up with like 2" of uptravel and 10" of down. Terrible solution if you like to go fast(er), fine if you're going slow in the rocks.

should be able to tell by looking at the ends of the tubes on the axle housing where they bolt to the backing plates, non abs is just a simple flat flange, abs should have a thicker piece that houses the ring and sensor and such,

assuming nothing else is modified, if the abs is actually functional and connected, could depend on other factors and any modifications made, whether that axle was stock to that vehicle, etc. (could potentially have non-abs junk running in an abs axle housing if mods have been made)

A picture of mine. Assuming the bolt on top of the cap for the sensor right.

I got my green fan clutch installed, admittedly took much longer than it should have but gave me an excuse to get some Gear Wrenches.

Found out while doing this that not only am I missing the lower half of my fan shroud but also my second skid plate has mysteriously gone missing. I took it to the stealership in December for a timing belt/water pump/valve cover gasket replacement and then took it to an exhaust shop last month to price header installation where it was up on a lift. One of those places has it...

LOL. My last 3 Tacomas no longer have that bottom piece. Every time I changed radiators, that part never got installed. I always worried that it would come loose and get mangled in the fan/radiator.

There is no difference in the cooling of the engine with that part. It's more to reduce the noise the fan produces on start up.

Can't you raise the hood and look at the ABS module? If you have lines going to the back, you have ABS.

Camelback was 105 and 84 for mine. Not sure which is which but order online if you have the ability to wait.

When I added a proportioning valve, I removed all the lines going to the back except one. I know I have the module from the front (which no longer works with the axle I have) but the rear does not stop like it has abs. Just skids so wanted to be sure.

If your rear brakes lock up too much might need to adjust that prop valve. If it's a stock type one with an arm mounted on the frame to the axle, might need to make a bracket to raise the height on the axle. Your rear axle likely has all the abs parts but as it's not hooked up no abs action

Just the proportioning valve from Front Range off road. Cut everything else off and only have the one line going. Doesnt bother me the abs doesnt work as I dont daily it anymore. Trying to find chromoly axle shafts that fit the rear is the reason I ask. Thanks

I can't find an actual photo from the back side but if you have ABS in the rear then you would have a sensor back there too. Besides brake lines and parking brake cable are there any wires connected to the backing plate?

No just the parking brake cable and the brake line. No electrical lines.
