I'm not a weakling by any means, but hoisting that awkward shit up there would SUCK, I think.

And I'm totally on board with not wanting to do a swing-out spare carrier. If it isn't on a Jeep, I just don't like the look of them, but more importantly, I don't like the weight cantilevered off the ass end of our weak frames. That can be overcome, but it's still not something I'll ever do on my Taco.

Just my opinion.

 

I guess I'm not understanding why you lose uptravel. Is 3" of spring lift not the same from shock mount to shock mount regardless of spring length?

 

Then you should have non ABS axles. I am pretty sure non ABS housing it doesnt matter though, you could put in an ABS axle with the tone ring and it will work. The problem would be if you have an ABS housing and install a non ABS axle

Make things a little easier. What Im trying to order. I shouldnt need the older bearings because its an abs housing correct?

 

Hmm that is confusing, I would call them. I am not sure how to tell if the housing was ABS even if you don't have ABS brakes

Has to do with the geometry of a longer spring that still goes over the axle.

When you move the front mounts forward, the rear mounts back, and have an appropriately sized shackle for the longer spring, the same 3" of lift will occur with the leafs much more flat than the shorter, OEM springs.

Therefore, on a correctly setup and bumped application you would loose uptravel. If you went way negative with you springs, or had like 8" of lift, would could indeed have the same amount of uptravel.

 

I used the chevy 63s with a stock axle and 12 in shocks from fox and bumped the springs after they just went negative. Have about 5-5.5in uptravel and 6-6.5in down. Give or take. Axle mount hangs just below the axle and gets dragged every now and then but doesnt bother me.

 

Ah. Didn't see that. 180 is a lot better then 240 though.

All elocker housings have ABS in them. But not always wired for it. But the housings are fitted for it.

Im just running out of options, currently i have it located in the bed standing straight up right behind the cab. Not being able to completly see out my rear window bothers me for some reason. And id like to save as much space in the bed as i can

 

If you can get someone stateside to buy from Camelback and ship to you, it might even end up being cheaper than $180. Not sure what shipping costs would be, but I really doubt cost + ship to Canada would be more than $180.

 

I have some ideas that center around keeping the spare laying flat in the space under my bed rack and above the bedsides. Probably right up against the cab on the passenger side.

That keeps my entire bed free without going to a swing-out.

 

Only took it around the block to make sure I didn't screw anything up so nothing noticeable. I wish I had a ScanGauge to compare temps towing the boat before and after.
