I wonder if anyone actually reads the posts?

The OP clearly stated, multiple times, that they put in a brand new short block. Not a rebuilt one. So they took that, bolted the heads, pan, intake manifold on and that is it. Since the heads and everything are effectively brand new, this is not a rebuilt engine.

With that said there is the possibility that there will be leaks and if there are the lemon law will still be available. However, the dealer is fully aware of that and so I'm sure that they put their best tech in this job and thaw engine is almost certainly put together better than any that come off a production line.

Hang in there with your truck OP and see how things go. If you have no more problems you have a great truck that you will loose bug $ to trade in. If you do have more problems, then you will get all your money back to get whatever truck you want.

I remember when my dealer put their best award winning mechanic to change the oil pump on my previous 2014 Tacoma. Broke my radiator in the process and never bother to bolt on the new one properly... among other things. I ended up getting a brand new 2015 Tacoma courtesy of Toyota.

    Lol "best mechanics"....

Even though they may not be obligated to exchange OP's truck, I would definitely push for it. Mechanics in general have to rush things, that's how they make money and earn their keep.

I would rather be a pain and demand a new truck than to drive a two week old truck that has been put back together with duct tape and kite string. Engine swaps are always an involved task. I would be very surprised if they get it perfect in one visit, in fact I would put money against it.

That's not me. I'm not including the alternator, a/c compressor ect. I'm anxious to see the parts list OP is going to provide once accomplished. If they broke a head bolt or reused his existing heads on a different block, if they used parts off his old motor (just the motor) other than covers for the most part, to me, it's a rebuild.

I'd be pissed if I didn't get a new truck.. I don't care what anybody says about Toyota and there obligation to only replace the engine, screw that crap...

If Toyota is so confident about how good it'd be after the replacement, then let them have it for a demo or something.. I'd take a new one, then everybody's happy..

If anything he should get a new one PLUS some gifts to go along with it, bc of all the headache and problems this turd engine has given him.. No one should have to deal with this crap after committing to paying for a new truck and two weeks later the engine is a turd.

Another huge reason people buy these trucks is the idea of having a dependable long lasting vehicle.. When something like this happens, the confidence in that vehicle isn't there or in Toyota if they choose to screw you around, when it's obvious what the right moral move is.. Another reason Toyota should make it right, buy putting him in a new one.. Restore the confidence.

    .
Technical speaking ... the short block is new ... the rest of it is RE-built with mildly used parts (still used parts by legal definition) ... being manufactured the second time after initial problems.

That's a good point, the dealer could use it as a loaner or rental and keep an eye on it.

Buy it back and resell it, which is what they did in my case. In the end if they lose $ it would not be much and they get to keep a happy customer.

I don't see them listed... So wondering if new because your truck only had 381 miles and was only 2 weeks old OR new as in they were shipped to the dealer already attached. Not that it matters, it would seem from your list they had to build the motor up anyway.
