Are they different than traction bars?

    Sorry, honestly asking.

What kind of stability we talking here?

Highway stability, normally the front is the only problem but if you're really worried about rolling it I guess it's worth it? The rear axle won't want to flex out as much (bad if you off-road a lot) but like I said, on the highway the rear won't roll as much as it does stock.

Yeah, the whole stability argument in trucks is if you go around a corner, you don't want the center of gravity to transfer too far over the side (the side of the vehicle on the outside of the corner). At low speeds; body roll is okay, but the faster you're going the more weight transfer you have, the more propensity there is for the body roll to upset the suspension/tires and flip the vehicle.

Although, the problem with doing that to a lifted truck is that it won't make a whole lot of difference since you've essentially raised the center of gravity. Think about a race car; they have super stiff suspension and a low center of gravity, hence they can safely corner at a lot higher G-force than a truck.

Right on, so there's traction bars for thr front and rear that help with that?

I feel like I've seen both on here from time to time on a Tacoma.....

Just never really was sure what they did besides look cool

A traction bar on the rear helps prevent axle-wrap (It only helps on the front of you have a straight axle and leafs). A traction bar will not limit articulation (like a sway bar would). Traction bars are for smokey burnouts :burnrubber:

He's talking about sway bars. Traction bars prevent axle wrap. Way different concept and design

You should've looked at Rod's rear axle. He has a sway bar.
