They are sitting off the wall about an inch. I am going to run MiraTec trim boards around and behind, flash the top, and caulk.

Failed my rough in inspection last Friday. It wasn't really all that bad. Need to add some fire blocking, mending plates and stud guards. I did get the OK to start the siding though, which is good. They should start tomorrow morning. The siding was delivered yesterday.

Mostly everything I failed for has already been corrected. I should be able to get another inspection this week, and hopefully proceed to insulation. I already have a drywaller lined up. Once that is completed its off to the races on the fun stuff like trim and flooring.

    image.jpg Siding is going on.
I'm not impressed with the guys doing it though. I've had a few issues, they are slow and messy. Messy is a big thing for me. Keep it clean. There are scraps everywhere, drives me crazy.

I wasn't there when they started, I had a floor to sand for my brother. The next day when I showed up, I was immediately upset. They had some that didn't line up from one side of the door to the other. It was very obvious too (why would you leave that??). Called the guy and told him I would be on the job Monday morning.

They had that fixed before I got there Monday, but that is not the only thing.......

My wife said "it drives you crazy to have other people work on your house, doesn't it"?

    Yes. Yes it does.

Anyway, I passed my rough in today. Good to go for insulation and I should have power on the house by Wednesday.

I am also shingling the roof for the building.....alone......which sucks.

There must have been some miscommunication between my wife and I when we did the house. There will be some metal roof accents on the front of the house, and she said (and I quote) "you should do the roof of the building in that metal to tie it all together ".

Well, she must have changed her mind and didn't tell me.

    image.jpg image.jpg

I was about two bundles short on my estimate, so I will have to finish tomorrow.

Finished the shop roof today and also the gabel end of the screen porch roof on the house. I didn't have any help so that was pretty difficult. It was pretty dark when I left but here is a pic:
    image.jpg

Not very good, I'll get another tomorrow. I built an eyebrow roof across the bottom instead of returns. Ladder jacks and a 24' walkboard. I do a lot of this alone, so anyone who knows about this stuff will feel my pain. Climbing up, over and down the ladders is something you just have to do. I don't have a cut man so I try to plan about 4 steps ahead.

Any reason you're not using scaffold ?

I have some, but they take a while to set up, and the ground drops about 3-4' from one end to the other. Ladders and jacks where the best option for me.

And I am terrified of pump jacks. I had one fall a few feet on me one time.....that was the last time.

I know what you are talking about with working alone , I do it a lot

I own a bunch of scaffold and I have some adjustable feet for them that will accomidate about 3' of slope

I have a similar distaste as you but mine if for ladder jacks haha

The scaffolds are set up on the back currently:
    image.jpg

This is an old pic, but have stacked another set on top, on each side to build the returns for the roof.

4 sets of 6'6" bucks, 2 on either side and a 24' walkboard in between is what is there right now.

I deal with scaffolding everyday. I am the scaffolding supervisor at the plant that I work at. Tubeloc, Excell, and Waco (bucks). If I could, I would Tubeloc the entire outside of the house to make it easier.

Negative. It is a rubber membrane flashing for the deck band. Supposed to be self sealing.

I am going to put that on top of the girders, under the decking to help with the water as well. This stuff is pretty cool.

I'm also going to bend some metal over the band, and under the siding. That stuff is supposed to seal against the band and house to keep water out.

It's not peel and stick, I'll see if I still have the label and let you know.

image.jpg Raining pretty good today, that means clean up day for the inside.

    @OZ-T

That flashing is Nuflex. Impermeable PVC membrane. That is the 20mil, 18" wide.
