That's business and engineering in general though. There will always be cost cutting where there can be. Since this isn't a exactly critical part, meaning it's easier to replace than other engine components, it doesn't have to be designed to be as failsafe intially.

As these issues show up over the next few years, Toyota will address them and make it good. About mid-cycle I doubt any of these will be an issue.

So far the gamble has paid off with an acceptible amount of failures to warrant a look into the part but not a recall to replace all the old sensors.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's a TSB eventually for technicians to refer to but until it's widespread, it won't generate a recall.

It'S up to the owner to decide what's an acceptable amount of risk, no matter how much noise is shouted from the peanut gallery.

Naw, my OR DCLB was only 36K.

If they paid 40k they got screwed.

Im quite interested in what the next-gen Tundra will offer. That may take my interest away from a new Tacoma.

I think Toyota would love to have a large portion of its repeat Tacoma customers move up to the Tundra. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a bigger separation of the models in the future.

The fact a member who never saw or touched the OP's truck to call out "cps" and be correct shows a pattern of a problem on the small sample size that is tacomaworld

You aren't far off. Its mind boggling to me what some guys are willing to put up with because "hyuck hyuck its a truck". These things cost a mint and getting tossed into a loaner or dealing with the hassle of the dealership service department isn't something we paid $33k+ for

Not really, my 1991 single cab DX V6 with a bench seat, AM/FM radio and no AC or cruise was $14k MSRP and when adjusted for inflation runs to about $25K in today's dollars. Seems to me the trucks today are about the same price despite the size, capabilites and tech so they're not exactly a lot more than before.

Sure it's a PITA to have a problem with a brand new truck but Toyota Tacomas aren't exactly top tier in the automotive world. Higher dollar cars and trucks can visit the dealer too, nothing is really immune to a failed part.

And this is why you never buy a truck in the first 2 years of a revision.... this is when they let buyers beta test things for them

Hatred probably because the sensor totally leaves you stranded without even limp mode to get you home.
