I sold my beloved 2007 TRD Sport in 2012 due to excessively long work commutes. That's changed, so now I'm back in a 2017 TRD Off Road!

    t2MPqfMfnRiop7c_jkEWaQClgba4Pa6IFnbtkPer_3de68a1ae9e4c3ef07f19bf9e7064098b62f7f3e.jpg
The build must go on, version 2.0 here we go! :burnrubber:

I will be orienting this build more towards a weekend excursion/expedition style. I like to get as far away from people as safely and comfortably as possible. On the other hand, I also prefer to be able to return home safely when I choose to.

I'm using this build to help me keep track of everything, and plan future mods. I will edit this post as things change.

My utilization theory is light, fast and convenient. I want any mods I do to fulfill these principles as much as possible.

I picked up a Double Cab Short Bed 2017 TRD Off Road with the Premium/Technology package in Quicksand on 4/22/17.

    Current Mods

    Exterior

    • Debadged (4/22/17) - Couldn't help myself!
    • Mesh Grill/color matched bezel (5/20/17) - Going to try the Faux Pro and see which I prefer. I also have Rentrop vinyl for this.
    • Bright LED reverse bulbs (6/5/17)
    • 5% tint on rear windows (10/2/17)
    • Removed B-Pillar vinyl (10/2/17)
    • KC Hilites Flex Pods (Waiting to mount, need to order ditch light brackets)
    Suspension/Wheels/Tires
    • 265/75/16 BFG AT TA KO2 installed on stock suspension (5/1/17). Minor rubbing during light wheeling/turning
    • RokBlokz mud flaps (5/6/17)

    Armor/Bed Mods

    Interior

    • Hondo Garage Radio Knobs (4/28/17)-Awesome
    • Screen protector for radio (5/09/17)
    • Rentrop Visor Vinyl (4/28/17)
    • Gentex Homelink rear view mirror (4/30/17)
    • GPS Override/Backup Camera Anytime (5/27/17)
    • Center Console Organizer (5/11/17)
    • Removed visor safety labels (5/20/17)
    • 3D Xpider Floor Liners (5/23/17) So far I love these
    • Diode Dynamics LED Dome/Map lights (Installed 6/5/17)
    • Molle panel for behind the rear seats. This opened up a lot more storage space and I re-organized what I already had behind/under the seats.
    • MesoJDM ECT always on module
    • 12 Volt Solutions Plug and Play Remote Start (LOVE THIS!)
    • Switch Pro 8100 (Waiting on delivery)
    • Rentrop steering wheel vinyl
    • AJT Quicksand key Fob + Rentrop vinyl
    • Element E50 Fire extinguishers - 2 (need to mount these better)

    Navigation

    • Garmin Inreach Explorer+ (working on mount)
    • Apple Ipad Mini (need to mount)
    • Cell Phone (need to mount)

    Recovery Gear
    • Spartan Recovery Rope
    • Spartan Soft Shackle
    • Bubba Rope Gator Jaws - 2
    • Hi-Lift Xtreme 60" + Slider adapter
    • Deadman Offroad Anchor
    • Tred 1100's (need to find a good way to mount them, preferably at the front of the bed)
    • Recovery Hitch
    • Metal Shackle - 1
    • MV 50 Compressor
    • Tire Deflators
    • Basic Tools
    • Small Shovel
    • Safety Seal Tire Repair Kit
    • Smittybilt X20 Synthetic winch
    • Tree Saver strap (Thanks TWSS!)
    • Masterpull 55K Snatch blocks - 2
    • Quick fists to mount shovel (using alum. bed mounts)

    Other

    • ChandlerDOOM Hardshell Roof Top Tent (On order)
    • 2 Scepter Water Cans (5/18/17)
    • 2 Scepter Gas Cans from Costco (need to replace)
    • Bugspray/TP/Medical Kit
    • Ratchet Straps/Bungees
    • Litra Cube (5/20/17) I like that I can mount it magnetically.
    • IFAK
    • Flares
    • AZ Maps
    • Filed down the bracket that rubs on the radiator hose (5/27/17)
    • Redline Tuning Hood Struts (10/16/17)
    • Off Grid Engineering Dual Battery Kit (need to decide on what batteries to use) Waiting to receive/install this.

    Planned Mods:

    Exterior
    • Black Headlight Mod (or PRO's)
    • Mesojdm Ultimate tail lights (Black, or PRO's).
    • Remove bed stickers
    • Rock lights tied in to the stock interior/courtesy lights and on to a switch.
    Suspension/Wheels/Tires
    • ~2" to 3" Lift - (Leaning toward BP51 or BOSS)
    • Paint current rims black - (Maybe)
    • Considering Procomp 70809's. They're all black and I can get them for less than $100 each total. Might pick up 5 if I end up getting a rear tire carrier...
    • Extended Steel Braided brake lines
    Armor/Bed Mods
    • OEM bed mat
    • Tuffy larger lockable bed storage
    • Front bed rail
    • Thinking about getting the 45L FRO water can if I get the FRO bedrack. I can fill it with hose water for showers/etc. I think I can also fit 6 total scepter fuel/water cans between the wheel wells about perfectly for long trips. I'm going to wait until I see how the bed bars work out. I may go for a FRO roof rack.
    Interior
    • Seat Covers (Leaning toward Black/Beige Clazzio covers-want to get this photoshopped first)
    • I want to paint the chrome rings around the A/C vents Quicksand or flat black, they glare in the sun and it bothers me to no end!
    • I'm working on a T-track just above the radio that I can mount a cell phone and Ipad mini to via Ram mounts.
    Misc
    • Differential Breather Mod - sooner rather than later
    • Chop Exhaust off at/near axle (considering high tuck exhaust)

    Other

-I need/want to order some additional recovery gear, maps, etc.
    - 2 D-ring shackles
    - Factor 55 Flatlink
    - Bolts/washers/wing nuts to mount TREDs to bedrail.
    -Maybe a CB/Ham/handheld radio(s) :notsure:

    It's good to be back!

How was the difficulty of this install? I'm not too mechanically savy so I was going to see if a shop would install it for me...

Sorry for the hi-jack Rhino, can't wait to see your build as it progresses! :)

By the way, don't forget to install a front bed rail for more mounting goodies! :)

It was not hard....Just have to route a wire down the frame into the passenger side kick panel. There are several tutorial videos on YouTube and on PopnLock's website.

Awesome guys, thanks! I'll look into the front bed rail, I thought I had seen someone with it, but thought it came factory.

    I updated my original post!

So I've been looking for a screen protector for the navigation. It shows finger prints like crazy. I found a few options, but they don't have the greatest reviews.

    More importantly...

Should I remove the black raised TACOMA lettering the dealer installed?

Got a flat yesterday driving down a regular street with the stock Off Road tires. Truck has less than 800 miles. Not impressed with them. The hole was straight through the thickest part of the tread.

I do enjoy the individually monitored TPMS though. I used to hate the old system. You couldn't tell which tire was low. I was able to watch the front right tire losing pressure in real time. I swapped it out in 16 minutes and went on my way!

I'm considering going to Discount tire and seeing about getting 5 BFG KO 2's in 265/75/16. I don't plan on lifting my truck for a while. I might try to sell the stock tires after swapping out.

What vinyl stickers did you use for this? I hate those labels.

Installed 265/75/16 BFG AT TA KO2's today. I'm running the stock suspension. I love how they look. Hoping I can sell my stock tires to recoup some of the cost.

New RokBlokz. They are a little pricey, but I heard almost no rocks bouncing off of my doors!

    Several projects underway!

Good riddance chrome grill! I always forget how much I hate prepping/painting things. If the bezel gets ruined in the future, I'm just gonna buy the already painted one!

I painted the ATH bed reinforcements as well.

Shout out to @2ndGenJonny and Brandon at Avid Offroad. I stopped by their shop to have them install my custom built sliders. They fabricated them exactly how I wanted and even painted and installed them in the Phoenix heat! Can't thank these guys enough. Great quality welds and craftsmanship.
