Yep timing belt. 03-09 4runners had an optional V8.

V8 + Manual would be the death of me. I'd get too annoyed in SF and just burn away my tires.

Doesn't technically work for VVTI as I'm sure you know. But I'll make it work. Also no off the shelf tune so I'll have that obstacle to get over.
