Late 06 was when the big bang happened, please note. Again I wasn't around, and I'm pretty sure you weren't either, so yes, most of the comments I have gotten on my 07 are from 1st gens rolling in and around Vegas and Cali for that matter; and most of the "same ol BS" I've gotten is mainly from the older crowd, sticking to the manly stature of any 1st gen. I have seen posts of 1st gens jokingly and non jokingly bashing 2nd gens from yesteryears. I've lurked these darks halls since 2012, but never actually yelled out until Feb. of 14, and that's nothing compared to others being held captive for 8-9 years. I've said it before and i'll say it again, I respect 1st gen owners more than 3rd gen owners any day, 2nd gen is just the ugly bloated middle child :D jk. Always respect elders. I like when people call me out, keeps things... interesting.

I assure you even though I wasn't top of my class, I am in no way stupid. I specifically stated "if you have too". Please don't twist my words either, I never stated for someone to actively seek out a fight face to face, its always advised to be verbal with someone first. I would much rather have a conversation face to face, but too many cower behind the screen. It's also kind of hard to call the professionals when you are the professionals, just sayin.

It's a vulnerability to any car with a CPS.

To the people carrying a spare cps sensor in the truck. It is my understanding that if the sensor fails on u on the road, then u cannot just replace the sensor and then get back on the road. The truck has to have some ecu stuff recalibrated from the dealer to run again. Also in some early instances when it failed, it destroyed the catalytic converter making the truck inoperable till replaced.

If u change the sensor to the good one in your driveway, than I don't think u need to go to the dealer for any kind of reprogramming.

So my point is I don't think u can just replace the sensor after it fails and get back on the trail. I could also be completely wrong about this.

ECU can be reset with a battery disconnect, and a catalytic converter disabling a vehicle? Can't say I've ever heard that claim before. Unless it's an electronic nanny, cats are emissions equipment and have nothing to do with engines being functional.

As soon as you get this uploaded with a part number I will be ordering one to have on hand just as insurance since I will be moving from Massachusetts to Virginia in two months. I don't want to be stuck on the side of the road for too long especially if its a simple fix

This is what I'm saying. Those that don't think it's a critical part until it leaves you stranded an hour into the woods. Very uncharacteristic of Toyota.

    You still stalking @Smitty99?

What happened to you? Did Smitty cause your mind to snap or something? And to agree with 2016Tacoman who does not even own a truck....well I'm not sure what to say.

Agreed. While it wasn't a Toyota that did this. My CPS failed on an old Jeep of mine out on some very secondary highway in the middle of nowhere Manitoba with an elderly family member the vehicle - this was before the days of cell phones. It was not a lot of fun and pretty stressful on my passenger.

I've said this numerous times, ANY vehicle with a CPS can leave you stranded, you venture off the beaten path without a spare you accept the risks.

It is like Toyota to replace those under warranty that have failed and also like them to investigate and provide what's considered an improved part.

If there's a substatial increase in failures then they may consider a recall; as it stands now you can pay for the later part to be installed on a functional older CPS or insist on it if yours fails under warranty and have it replaced for free.

Rather than a recall , Toyota may want to advise dealers to just replace the CPS at a scheduled free service appointment so one one gets spooked about a recall if it becomes a large problem for the pre 4-16 trucks . This could go a long way to make owners feel better by saying that it is a preventative measure to avoid a breakdown.

How many owners other than the small percentage that visit here do you think are even aware Toyota has changed the part to a later (improved) version? Only worry I'm aware of is what's induced here.

I guess owners and non owners can always start inflating reports of the CPS on carcomplaints dot com to spread that fear beyond TW.

I am sure Toyota has a statistical study done to see it would be cheaper to wait and pay for the ones that do break down before the warranty expires . My point was that with the bad reliability reviews out there as of now for the 2016 , it would be a good and cheap PR move to make owners feel like Toyota cares , and still not have a recall .

I understand what you're saying and I agree, but probably not going to happen. Trucks are still selling like mad despite the reviews.
