Your base can't move. I don't think laying screen and steel will work. My drive moves as the crack width moves during the year.

 

Going to try next sat. It will be a pre fishing day for Sunday tournament but we will see.

 

Yea my biggest problem is in a curve.
I did see a neighbor have tar put down and crushed granite rolled down. Watching to see how well it holds up in their curved drive.

 

If your ground there is like Austin in the summer it shrinks from the heat in the summer like Mikes does from the cold in the winter . Not a asphalt guy nor a concrete guy but I have dug holes in Austin in the summer and yeah it is about like digging one in Maine mid winter soil is hard as a damn rock !!

When I was in high school we rented a apt. The owner put this beautiful tar drive. Then came back a month later and put tar/sealer down with crushed stone. It was horrible. The rocks got plowed into the grass and had to be picked up completly from the grass and spread every year. My house had the same and the snow blower was not good for the drive,yard, or blower. No way would I do it. The first thing I did was yank my drive. I used the rocks to go around the house for water run off.

We're lucky to have a foot of dirt in most areas. Otherwise it's solid rock.

 

You and me both the sensation thing meh it is a party trick to be able to grab something up to about 120 deg and hold it ( yes I get a blister if I hold it to long) but it takes a bit for the heat to get to me lol. The numb and tingling BS is ANNOYING when you try to sleep , hold anything etc . I do not use Styrofoam or paper cups and have not for years as my hand slowly closes with out me realizing it squishing the cup. The contraction is not enough to do much more then that but it is annoying. They get the left done and soon as it is healed the right will be done.

Find the asphalt depth. Drill holes just short of punching through and drop in some dowel pins to tie your top steel to. The wire panels should work great and keep your labor to a minimum. You're going to need a minimum of 4" of concrete.

 

I'd have to rip up my bricks but have considered redoing with concrete and aggregate for traction. Pavers are pretty. And pretty much a PITA as they age.

Food baby FTW! You got me thinking with that Krusteaz, I really like Krusteaz pancake mix. Pecans, chocolate and chocolate Krusteaz would make a hell of a cobbler. Way too many carbs but...

Don't leave Mike out there out there without a face mask of some type to prevent frost burn. That crap is for life and lot of people here have burns on their face and neck from doing that without proper gear. Something like a Mark V gas mask but with bug eyes works.

Im a fair weather fisherman. I go ice fishing once every 3 or 4 years.
I'm starting to hate the cold more and more.
