I found a video with the tech replacing a fuel tank with sand in it. I think it could be your truck.
The tech speak Vietnamese and he was explaining what happened to the truck and how he took off the fuel system

 

Left my gas cap off in pismo (accidentally), blasted through the creek and around Pismo for half a day, still no problems. Hmmm.

 

My buddy is into mid 90's Eddie Bauer Ford Explorers with the 5.0 v8, he's picked up two really clean ones with fairly low miles and 4x4 for under $2,000.

Engine is 3.5 L for the 2016 in the past he says the engine may have been 4.5 but they made it smaller …


Here is where he is explaining what happened. basically that op said in his post.

The guy who brought it in was wheeling at the beach near salt water, dirt everywhere. The guy washed his car and the engine shut off. After he tried to drive a little and it shut off. At the end the guy noticed sand near the gas cap.

The place where you open the gas does not have a lever to open the gas door so it is easy for someone to dump sand or sugar into the tank. the owner had to return 3 times because he was having troubles and so someone from Toyota has to come to check it out.

Then the guy is talking about how to take down the gas tank and what they need to take off.

After taking off the skid they saw all the sand but it’s almost impossible for sand to get into the tank unless it was intentional.

They have to take out all the gas but it is still heavy so they have to use the jack lift. They use it for engines, transmissions, gas tanks

Taken down the gas tank and see sand on the top but they will check out inside the tank to see if there is any sand. And then the gas pump is located there and they are going to take it off. It’s a large fuel pump and they will set it aside to see . they have a sample of gas and they are going to shake it to see if they can see any particles the size of a pin head.

There is some particles in the sample. So someone played foul and put it intentionally so the engine can’t start. Toyota guys are going to test it to see what the particles are.

Now we are going to open the tank and wash it out of all the particles then they cant drive it for a month. They are changing new gaskets and put the pump back. And they have a special tool to tighten the fuel pump cap.

This is 100% my truck. Has my RN sticker on bottom left window, gadsen flag bottom right. My LED projector fogs, flag decals, my Paracord steering wheel wrap and my captain America tailgate decal with reflective Tacoma stickers and my Tacoma decals on doors.... Oh and that's my plate, complete with barbed wire surround front and rear... Hell, open the rear storage and there's a bundle of 10 minutes road flares in a brown plastic bag lol


Kind of pisses me off they filmed all through my truck and didn't even bother to tell me.... And why is it in vietamese lol
