Honestly as the owner of 7 metal jerry cans, go with Used plastic Scepters if at all possible. The real (Plastic) Scepter Jerry cans with the proper hardware will last past your lifetime. @OZ-T mentioned a seller on here that has them quite often. You can also find them on Ebay. Someone else mentioned surplus stores. If they are Big enough of a store you might could find a bargain. I have 3 real Scepter (Plastic) jerry cans now. Each purchased on Ebay. They will never rust, or dent, and are much lighter than the metal variety. Of the 7 metal jerry cans that I have, I use none of them now. Trust me on this a look for The Plastic Milspec variety. You will be much happier. I have been.

There are positives and negatives to both the Scepter and traditional steel jerry cans (buy Wavian if you can) but they're both better than anything else. The steel cans require a bit more maintenance but it really just involves changing out the gasket (rarely) and keeping up with any rust that may develop. Neither of those two things are going to take up much of your time. The Scepter cans weak spot is the flange that keeps the gasket in place. They can break and the parts to fix it aren't readily available. The biggest thing with buying Scepters here in the US is you're almost certainly going to be buying US military surplus cans. If you're going to be using them for gasoline you MUST change out the gasket to Viton.
