Any suggestions on an exhaust system or exhaust? (flow master/magnaflow/etc) greatly appreciated

Magnaflow 12279 and I'm really happy with it. I also have an AFE intake.

Not really any noticeable power gains but it sounds nice

Running a Flowmaster super 44 muffler

 

IMO Magnaflows sound a lot better than Flowmasters on a v6 application. I put 14" Magnaflows on my truck and they sound very clean, and aren't as loud as you might expect given the amount of cat's on the 3rd gens. It sounds good when you get into the pedal but not excessive in the cab. If you aren't sure on the muffler, when you have it done ask the installer to hear a couple different options on it before they weld it up. Any exhaust shop should be able to set the muffler on the existing pipe and let you hear it to get an idea of what the finished product will sound like.

Whatever muffler you choose, One major point I'd make with the 3rd gen specifically, is to make sure you replace from the Y pipe back when doing the exhaust. The factory Y pipe is a bad design that's almost partially crushed when you look at the cross section of it, its more of a box than a circle. Additionally, there is an overlap inside the Y pipe where the pieces were joined at the factory that effectively reduces the size of the pipe, thus unnecessarily restricting the exhaust flow.

 

I had a Magnaflow. Too loud and dronie for me. Got a TRD exhaust. Perfect.

 

I have an MBRP cat back. From what I've seen on here, you just need to pick from: Magnaflow, MBRP, or the TRD.

 

Just my personal opinion, but anything less than a V-8 sounds terrible with an aftermarket exhaust. 4 cyl sound like they have a fart can attached, V6s' just make a lot of noise for no other reason than to be noisy. To each his own though, I hop you find what you like.

I'm starting to feel the same way. And the extra noise just reminds you of all the extra revving and shifting that this engine does. It's really starting to get on my nerves, and I might put the stock exhaust back on.

I agree. When you roll up to my house it's not too loud but still has a step up on the OEM exhaust.

Save your money and buy something that is actually a functional upgrade.

 

I know someone with a Spintech in a 2nd gen and it sounds pretty good. Definitely quieter than the MBRP.

 

I have TRD exhaust. Sounds good. But as others have said, maybe spend dollars on functional upgrade unless it matters to you. If so, TRD is a good option. Not too loud no drone.

 

I have the TRD exhaust as well. Can drone at times at highway speeds, but not nearly as much as a Magnaflow. It's subtle at idle, but has some balls when you get on it. Overall I'm very happy with this exhaust. There's a sweet spot between 2500-3000+ RPMs that sounds so sexy. Can't help but mash the gas to get it there every time!
