    Help Needed!

I am active duty military currently living overseas and recently purchased a Tacoma TRD Pro through a special military program. When the truck arrived the suspension was completely covered with Ziebart undercoating as you can see in the pictures. The overseas dealership has offered to remove the undercoating but I am concerned that it may damage the seals or possibly the appearance. Has anyone ever removed undercoating from their suspension? Did it cause any dry rotting to the seals or any issues?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help with your issue, but I'm damn jealous you were able to go thru MAS for your truck. On Guam they only support Jeeps and Ferds it seems, I had to buy thru a local dealer and miss out on some of the MAS benefits.

Sigh.....I decided to go through with the purchase, MAS has opened a warranty claim and the truck will be fixed once I return to the states in July. They only send a hand full of these trucks over seas and you have to win a lottery to even have a chance at purchasing the truck. I was able to win the lottery and I couldn't pass up the deal, hopefully everything works out and I don't have any issues.

    all tore up already
Wait you got free undercoat and are more concerned with looks? Its UNDERcoat. Now if there were overspray all over the paint i wouldnt be happy but most people pay a bunch for that stuff to be applied. Because it is good. Besides its a truck. How long do you really think shocks and underside of truck will stay clean (i like to think people dont buy pros for pavement princesses but i know this isnt the case)

I ended up spraying mine with fluid film anyway just to make it easier to wash the mud and clay off.

    ...

They fluid filmed the suspension. Its not "ruined" beyond functionality unless proven it got past the seals. Sure is ugly though.

Is there any undercoating on the actual shaft where it would hit and possibly damage the seal? If yes, it MIGHT be a problem.

If no, then it's purely cosmetic.

I'd be furious if I was you.

If there is any on the shaft I don't think there's any doubt it will lead to premature failure of the seals. How quickly it will go? Impossible to say, but those wipers/seals are designed to ride on polished chrome, not a shitty half-assed spray on undercoating job.

And its really simple if you think about it, if you took those shocks off right now and tried to sell them, do you think someone is going to pay a decent price for them? Fuck No. They killed the value of them with their sloppy bullshit (and the value of the Pro truck as well considering the suspension/shocks being one of the major selling point of those trucks). Screw cleaning them up, for all you know they are going use a mechanical means to remove the undercoat and end up damaging the finish on the outside leading to accelerated corrosion. Or they might use chemical removal and damage the seal/wiper in addition to the anti-corrosion treatment. I'd be demanding replacements.

If its just a liquid coating probably no issue. If it's a hardened /cured coating you're likely in trouble.

    none yet/none planned! It's perfect!
Wow! That sucks! I spent all weekend under mine spraying everything in clear coat so it doesn't start rusting for a few years. I even sprayed over the pink and blue marks because I thought they looked cool! The thing I noticed about the truck is that about 99% of the components were painted with a pretty decent coat of black paint. I have owned a lot of new cars and this is the best looking car underneath that I have ever owned. Don't know if this had something to do with past frames rusting out but it was very nice to see!
