Farmers want to total my truck

I got rear-ended and piled in to a '15 Camry. No real damage to the front, just a tear in the valance.The rear bumper, right taillight and the tailgate are (were) mangled. The big problem is the rear sill part of the bed being bent in and moving in the lower corner of the bed to overlap the tail gate. The Farmer's approved body shop wanted to replace the sill, floor and redo the spray in liner. They would also have to repaint the whole bad and replace the decals and lettering. They also wanted to replace the hitch that was not even harmed. All together just under $6000. I've fixed most of it but the tailgate and the bed.

Anyway Farmer's is offering me about $5000 for my truck. There is no way I can replace it for that here. They say the tires are worn out, there is a hole in the driver's seat and sever rust. There is a hole in the driver's set but the rest is just BS.



Soon Ill have a new painted tailgate too, all out of my own pocket. I hope I can get it to fit. My only recourse is to sue the man that hit me. Farmers insurance are crooks. I can not accept their offer.

 

Farmers aren't crooks. They are just willing to give you what your truck is actually worth. Just because everyone wants 10k for their first gen tacomas doesn't mean that's what they are worth.

 

Anyway to take the money then buy the truck back? Some insurances will let you do that. Just have to ask.

 

It's not worth the salvage title. As I'm seeing it now my truck was already a wreck. They can keep thier hundreds and I'll keep my title.

 

It literally does mean the truck is worth 10k if people are buying them for 10k.

@conroe if you are unhappy with the valuation look for comparable trucks in your area to show how much it would cost to replace it. You will need several examples and need to before about what you will accept.

 

How can my nearly new tires be less that 4/32? They are not. Farmer's are crooks.

 

This the closest I can find with in a day trip. I rather have mine. The new paint in this one looks real bad up close.

They had a list of trucks I can't buy because they sold long ago. Most were over 200 miles away too.

 

If people willingly pay 10k, it is in fact worth 10k.

 

Why would they say those tires are worn out?

 

the way it works is you take the $5k payout, then pay them salvage scrape value for the truck, that's not going to be thousands it more like $500 or most likely less.

best choice is take the payout and buy it back, you end up keeping around $4500 and have to settle for having a salvaged title for it.

if you ever go to sell it its still only going to be worth the $5k they want to give you for it right now so take it.

you can simply ask what the buyback value is if you don't want to believe me, all they want is what the junk yard would pay them for it, they couldn't care less if you keep it or not, they just want to recover the scrap metal value when they total a vehicle.

yes its still worth arguing over the value of the payout, but in the end taking the payout and buying it back is the best solution for you because no matter what happens its still not getting fixed by them either way because they are totaling it

 

It's more about sale price than availability. You just have to show that a like condition/like optioned truck is worth more than they are offering. Insurance companies aren't in the business of throwing money at everybody, they make money by sending out less than they take in. But if you do your homework they might give you more money or find another truck for cheap.

 

Almost, he said if everyone wants $10k when selling, not if everyone is paying $10k. Big difference

I've got to go get the police report so I can speak with the nice guy that hit me. I don't want to sue him but I deserve my truck back the way it was.

State Farm paid me $30k for a 4 year old truck with 58k miles that was $24,700 when I bought it new.

I didn't haggle whatsoever to get it, either.

 

Not all insurance will allow you to buy it back. I went through this last summer but I did get another $1000 over their first offer.

 

well to start with, its "his" insurance company that is supposed to be paying you for this anyway, your insurance is only involved with the guy "you" rear ended if even that

 

That's amazing, you're one of the lucky ones. They are still Scum though. Over the years I have fought and won as well as fought and lost battles with them.

 

My insurance went over and above for me considering I don't carry full coverage on this vehicle (but it probably was mostly about getting out of paying for the Camry I hit.) Soon He will understand how underwhelming his company is. They probably did fix or replace the Camry I hit and anything that was in the trunk I totally displaced with my front end.

 

You don't carry full coverage and they're offering you money?

Was your coverage more then just liability coverage?

My older truck is strictly liability, so I'm SOL if I wreck it.
