Your frame looks great and I highly doubt it would be replaced for the rust indicated the photos in the post. For a 2010 that is potentially 7 years old it's standing up very well. Now would probably be a good time to clean it up and recoat with something. Everyone had their own magic elixir from oil to por 15, to paint. Keep it clean and dry. It will last as long as the other components of the truck.

Nothing lasts forever. It's cool seeing old vehicles, I love them but don't want to drive one. I like the latest technology - safer, better. Maybe not more fun to drive, but better overall. When your Tacoma reaches the end of the line, it will be time to move on to a new one maybe self driving. Haha

It would be foolish not to. Its close to $10,000 in free parts and labor plus a vehicle to use while they do it. Just had mine (06) done in Nov. 2016 and it looked similar to yours.

How long did that take, to do the replacement? Does the air-conditioner have to be evacuated of R134a before the body is removed from the frame? Should I remove my backup camera if I do actually need a new frame or can I trust the Toyota dealer to put put it back together correctly?

So you can fail their test and get it replaced. Bought my 06 in 2011 with a pretty rusty frame. Wire brushed it and repainted but after a few years the rust started to come back. Brought it in for frame inspection in 2015 and they said it was not bad enough. Had I left it alone it would have been much worse looking and maybe failed. Told me to wait till near the end of the recall end date and bring it back in. Brought it back in early 2016 and it failed the inspection and was replaced later in the year.

I really don't see based on your pics and based on what other people have posted on this site that you will end up with a replacement. In all likelihood they will mark it down as passed inspection and you'll be on your way.

That being said and if for some crazy reason there is a real bad spot somewhere interior on the frame that they find, make sure to ask the dealer how many frame replacements they've actually done. Might be worthwhile to take it to another dealer who has done 30 trucks than someone with 0.

My truck was only 5 years old with 30,000 miles when I bought it in 2011 and the frame was already pretty rusty. Probably why the previous owner got rid of it.

Does the A/C system remain in intact when they separate body from frame?

And what about my aftermarket backup camera?

I'll have it looked at by Thompson Toyota (the dealer that's done a lot of warranty and routine maintenance work on my truck), Peruzzi Toyota (the dealer where my dad bought the truck), and my own independent mechanic...

I've owned a lot of cars and never had to keep the frame "clean and dry" to prevent rust. Its a frame problem not an owner problem.

Took 4 days. Didn't do anything to the truck before bringing it in, why would I, its there problem to take care of. Just bring it in as is and if they screw something up then bring it back.

All SR5 and Limited 2nd gens came standard with backup cameras beginning in 2009. All 2009-newer base model 2nd gens are prewired for a backup camera. My truck has an aftermarket Clarion backup wired into the factory "reverse wire." It is mounted on a license plate bracket (factory backup camera is in tailgate handle on models equipped with one, and the image appears in the rearview mirror mirror on 2009-2012 models), and the image is shown on a Sony touch-screen head unit...

I believe once they (the first dealership) make their decision its in the system and there is no use bringing it to another dealership.
