What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Its a GM alt. Will not plug n play with with your OEM harness. You can buy premade pigtail harness to convert it to be plug and play off ebay for $15

 

Yeah, i know it won't connect to OEM. Was trying to say I'll have to try and find the right one at the auto store and wire that in place of the OEM. The one I got earlier was for the 95 Deville and that alternator fits that car so I'm thinking it should work for the alternator you linked. If not, I'll look on eBay for the one you're describing. Sorry, hard to convey some things with my nonsensical rambling

For the wiring.

THe CS144 is NOT plug in play. You have to make a spacer for the top mount that is around 3/8'' think.

We're on the same page (even if I'm failing to convey it). I've already got some washers for the spacer problem and was planning on wiring in the new pig tail instead of the adapter, like you did in your build. Just gotta source some 4ga wire this week. also, great write up. Was trying to find one earlier and ended up with some wiring diagrams to make it up as I went. It will help immensely.

 

Ah, I see where I went wrong, my plug and play comment from earlier was meant to be find the correct plug for the alternator that would in turn be wired in to the truck. Poor choice of words. My b. But I do appreciate all the assistance @Blackdawg . Even if you're face palming me

 

Whose all running Alcan springs? How much weight did you say you carry? How do they flex?

I have them,

I told them I wanted +200# (whatever that means) with 3 inches of lift.

I had 400# of sand and didnt lose any noticeable height.






Compared to stock of that means anything

I did/do. Very flexy. Weight.well..a lot. But you can custom order them to what you want.

Just don't expect a pack that is made to hole 300lbs to ride smooth with an empty bed.

 

Installed a brake proportioning valve in the center console

 

I like it. But i bet running all the line to there wasn't fun haha

 

Actually went faster than expected, brand new hard lines from Low Range off-road so they bend easy by hand, and they are like $7 each so I didn't care if I bent it wrong. But it's just hand tight, no fluid or anything yet, so we'll see if it actually works lol

 

Do they ride rough with 200 lbs? Just trying to figure out if what they think is best is what we think is best.

I called today to get a quote and a little more info on them. I need to actually weigh my truck. I don't often remove things from it. Wildernest roughly 250, Jerry can and Rack 100, tools 75, recovery gear 50, armor 100. So I'm guessing close to 600lbs all the time. Then add camp gear and water probably another 100. No wonder my truck can't make it over the mountains haha

Ive owned my taco for a year now! This is when I first lifted in and rocked a canopy for a bit

 

It rides kinda rough but livable.

I'm pretty sure the first time I talked to them they said I should do +500# sooo

 

i did some engine work on my 3rz, only issue is i still have a miss fire on cyl.3 after all the work that had been done and money spent i come to find out the shop i took it to did not look at my pistons for any issues, so my head and up has been resurfaced but my pistons were never touched

 

What f you use the smaller 199mm calipers with offset?

I am curious about this comment. You do realize the lower mount arm is movable right? IIRC, loosing the inboard mount bolt on the lower arm, will allow the arm will drop by 1/2" or more.

I'm on my 2nd set. This set was custom, purchased directly from them.

I asked for 2 things, lift and load capacity. I asked for 2.5" of lift at full load. And 500# carrying capacity. Full load for me is probably very similar to what you carry. For reference, fully loaded I am right at 5800 lbs.

Fully loaded the ride is sweet and flexes quite well. I never run empty bed.
