I know 3rd gen sucks, but I still want to drive one so I have an unbiased opinion...

My dream Tacoma right now is a 2015 V6 4x4 access cab 6-speed!

In addition to my 2010 Tacoma and the aforementioned 2015 I just mentioned, I'd also like these two in my garage someday...

Wow, Charlie--just saw your dash cam shots from a few pages back. Good quality--makes me want to buy one. You have such narrow streets there!

People say I have a road rage problem...

I don't have road rage! I have Doylestown Rage! Now you know why I'm so uppity about my truck when I'm in the Borough! This is also probably why my blood pressure is slightly high!

I have two of these... They were paid for by restitution money from the drunk asshole who hit my truck in October 2015!

Cool, very reasonable price. Was looking at a couple of Garmins a while back as well.

I wish I had one for my only speeding ticket--got out of it another way because the guy tried to write it based on a school zone speed limit on a Saturday. But, he wrote in his notes that I was going 50 across an intersection when in reality I was stopped at the light before I crossed it. The truck won't accelerate anywhere near that quickly. Would have been nice to show that to the clerk magistrate and say "you know, by the way..."

Of course, guess it was a moot point since I didn't know he had written that in his notes until the hearing--I was pretty floored by that. And I won anyway.

    At Thompson Toyota now...

Girl I went to high school with checked me in and she says the computer system says my truck doesn't qualify for the recall. I detect a not-so-subtle hint of annoyance on her part because I actually give a shit about my truck. However because of my longstanding relationship with this dealer, they took it in, put it on the lift, and are currently inspecting it for free. Bad news is I don't get a free loaner, but it's not gonna take very long so I'm just waiting.

Looks like I'm just gonna get it under coated...

Also, my dad is being incredibly annoying about me doing any DIY work on my truck. My dad thinks the dealer should treat my frame for free. I know that is not gonna happen.

My dad is always on my ass about saving money as all good parents are, yet when I try to save money by doing basic "Tacoma Improvement," he thinks the dealer or our family's independent mechanic should do it...

If I lived in a state that didn't require emissions testing and safety inspections, my truck would only be going to the mechanic for stuff I can't do like brakes, fluids, and tune-ups.

It's a Toyota Tacoma, not a Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit! I think I can handle basic maintenance! How do I convince my dad of this?

Maybe there's another reason like oil on his garage floor from oil changes or stuff lying around after a repair, or doesn't like loaning his tools or getting shop dirty. Humans are complicated and guys don't always say what they mean. In the end, you'll need to have your own place to find freedom. It's his world so he gets to call the shots and you'll always be a kid in his eyes who needs advice and help.

Your frame is fine. Clean it with a wire brush or wire wheel and paint it with some rustoleom or higher quality pant and keep driving.

From the pictures your frame looks like a lot of surface rust and Toyota isn't going to give you a new frame for surface rust, they will if there's perforation (rotted out with rust)..If it were mine I'd wire wheel it and rattle can paint it.

Second opinion is to do the eastwood Rust converter process 1st and then the internal coating, I used Chassis Saver external to avoid sand to stick to fluid film , it's all about multiple options, you may see more than 50 pictures in my album, now that this thread is about the topic :transformer:

The frame problem is because of the metal they chose to use and has nothing to do with tlc.

I tried to think of one time, just one time, when I may have gotten behind the wheel of any vehicle when I was in absolutely no condition to drive...

I couldn't really think of one...

I'm not gonna lie, I've driven after having 1-3 beers over the course of a couple hours, but I pace myself. I've driven after drinking, but I've never driven drunk.

I've also driven with one hell of a hangover too...

Very true! Toyota has been making trucks with premature rust problems since the 1980 Hilux and we keep buying them. But you can achieve longevity with preventive maintenance.

This has worked well for me. Frame rust free since new. I am sure my frame will last the life of my truck.

The rust doesn't even look that bad.

The boner for rust on this site is almost as bad as the boner for diesel.

I agree it is not that bad yet at all, but with proper care it would have been in a lot better shape.

You are officially in the boner camp when it comes to rust.
