    Hey guys and gals,

Noticed that my passenger side headlight is contacting the fender. Looks like it was that way from the factory as i havent touched these parts ever and Im the 1st owner. It appears that the contact has eroded parts of both the headlight and paint. Also forms a nice place to trap salt and road nastiness. Not sure whether its the fender or the headlight causing the issue.

When compared to the drivers side, it looks like there is supposed to ve a consistent air gap around the headlight at the fender.

Anyone else experience this? Now that I'm at 32k miles I'm afraid Toyota is gonna tell me where to stick it.

    Passenger side:

Driver side, for reference..note the position of the top of the light relative to the top part of the stamped relief in the fender:

I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow but im not expecting any luck.

They'll probably tell you it isn't an issue, because it isn't.

I don't see it contacting the paint or removing any paint either?

Mine do the same thing, it's worse here because when it gets into the 110's things start to soften and sag more. Unfortunately there really isn't a fix, I would cancel the appointment, they are just going to tell you the same thing.

    Why?

Looks like a little adjusting and touch up will be all that's needed. Surely they'll be glad to play...........

It was pretty common in the 60's to get a box of shims to line up panel gaps and stuff after you got the car home. Well, I've heard of anal types doing that anyway.

mine look about the same but I have pulled mine out to work on them and the truck before so it could have just been me putting them back in but I don't think it is going to hurt anything.

My passenger headlight does the same. There's a very small amount of rust where in contacts, but it's not horrible.

Truck is out of the 25k warm fuzzy warranty. I am concerned because of the road salt they put on everything here in CT and I dont want my truck looking like rusty swiss cheese in 3 years.

Welp, it's an issue to me. Put the damn truck together correctly, Toyota.
Look in the first picture, about an inch or so down from the corner of the light. It looks like moisture, but it isnt. I'll try to get a close up shot later

Well, hopefully they re-adjust it for you - but bare in mind you bought an assembly line truck put together largely by machine and people who are pushed to do the human work as fast as they can.

1/16" of an inch on a headlight housing is not really something to get bent out of shape about. It's easy enough to fix on your own, so don't be surprised if they want to charge you to do the same work at the dealership.

So you are using fluid film a couple times a year under the truck, right?

Yeah 100% what I told myself. I work in designing manufacturing lines myself, so that's totally understood here. I was more coming from the 'an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure' school of thought. Figured going to the dealer was worth the shot.

    Thanks

    No doubt.

It'd be nice if they readjusted it for you, but if they do, obviously it's the dealer taking care of a customer and not Toyota giving a damn. Let us know what happens.

I climb under there with an extending roof gutter sprayer about 3 times a winter to clean the road grime off. So far, so good. The sprayer articulates to get in all the nooks and crannies.

Will do. It's either them or a quick to the neighborhood body shop for a cash deal. First step is the dealer as they told me owe me one for a nicked wheel they caused, so we will see...
