I've had my truck for a little over a year now and it's pushing 30k miles. I've had the TSB done for the shifting and it has calmed down a lot, it will actually hold 6th gear for quite a while before down shifting into 5th or 4th.

My question, though, is how well built/stout is the transmission in the 3rd gen Tacoma? I've heard lots of people call it shitty in reference to its shift points, which is a software issue, however, I'm interested in knowing how durable and well built it is.

From what I've seen and heard here (respected opinions) the transmission is OK regarding those other aspects. @gearcruncher

Too soon to tell. i haven't seen any threads on a transmission failure, just a lot of complaints.

It's known to have a leaky valve body somewhere in the design which causes a shift flare/slip which is also annoying. Design flaw? @ToyoMann

Some people may be really dense, but come on. You have the same verbiage and terminology and being a member that joined yesterday, you seem to mimic a lot of bradwhitenikki's posts from before he was banned.

    Try again.

Most amazing engineer ever...... He was cool at first, but then someone/something took over with his "scientific experiments/experience" and he got banned.

"I parked my truck on an incline and noticed that the transmission shifts a little differently when it's cold, as do all transmissions, therefore was able to deduce that there was an air bubble in the valve body"

Not a very good experiment, but I can see where he was going.
