I've got long drive coming up next month and want to tap into my digital music and figured Id make it look good by installing a dash-mounted aux port.

Only problem is, I cant figure out where to solder it down. There's a few Ho-Tos floating around the forums, but they have a CD player, so the board is a little different. I could do trial and error, but am hoping someone more electronics savvy than I might save me the trouble... Its a Dolby unit A56410.

Here's what Im looking at: https://ibb.co/ftUvD5

The tape head ribbon has 5 "wires" and connects to the main PCB through the pictured ribbon port (CN803, just below the two pots). Below that, not in a square is CN802, a 7-pin ribbon also connected to the tape unit, FYI.

There are two pots (VR 801 and VR 802), two "test points" (tp 801 and tp 802).

Where do i solder up my 3.5 mm wires?

Here's the view from the other side of the pcb. Squares are drawn around the 5-pins from the ribbon (CN803) and the 3 solder points for each pot: https://ibb.co/fsdGLk

    Maybe @mechanicjon could help you

If you don't figure it out, they make cassette tape AUX cord adapters for like $5.

Yeah, I own one. They sound and look crappy, IMO, but work in a pinch.

Oh my god I bought a cheap one from China for my Benz. It sounded like I was listening to someone playing the radio over a CB radio with a broken antenna.

Any reason why you don't just get a new stereo? They're pretty cheap.

I hate the look of all aftermarket. I prefer an upgraded factory "stealth" look. I've spent considerable money adding aux and amp preouts for a hidden amp and sub install. The factory units are so easy to use and look great. I know you weren't asking me, JMO

I commend you on the cheap learning experience. What you're doing has been done and well documented on other makes and models for sure. I'm sure others would use this love to do this cheap mod if it were well documented (like you might have the ability to do). Keep googling, I'll bet you can figure it out.

I'm not sure if the cassette tape signal is the same as an aux input signal. As far as decoding it. I'll have to research that one.

Here's what I did.............Grom audio USB/AUX/IPOD & Rostra Bluetooth. Grom in CD1 in back of oem 6 disc non-JBL with black face/silver button mod & 2012 oem lit vol/tun knobs. Rostra Bluetooth plugs into into stereo wiring harness. button is left of steering wheel. mic ran up above rr view mirror. Both are P&P situation. USB under left AC vent and AUX down in lower dash panel slot and IPOD connection just run into glovebox.

pic of 2012 of vol knob.....

Im not looking for a plug'n'play solution, but something more like the following. Only prob is that mine doesnt have clearly marked "L" and "R" solder points anywhere: https://youtu.be/bRIswrodoM8

This mod below is close, but I dont know which solder points on the pots to try b/c he didn't get a good pic of it. Also not sure if I'd get the same results since his is a diff. model.
