Old Man Emu setups on 1st gens

I'm still bummed about getting a full ARB bull bar bumper sold from under me a few months back for $175!!!!!

Need a rear bumper first. Bent to hell from pulling others out. Why is it the Taco never gets stuck....

OME 885 springs work on a 1st gen? I'm guessing a heavier spring rate with higher number and designed for extra weight (bumper).

I'm running 882's with bumper, winch, oba, light bar and skid plate. They are plenty heavy for what I ended up with.

I have a 95 xtra cab with a 2.7, will be installing my VR12 with a bumper and a skid plate. What springs should I be looking at to get 2-2.5" of lift ?

 

How much does that weight roughly?

I'm going to guess the 882 would better suit you. From what I understand, the 883 does better for the heaviest trucks. You're already on the lighter side because 4 banger. Again just a guess.

For reference, My 2.7 is currently on 881s with a bumper, ifs skid, trans skid, and sliders. I'm happy with the ride height. If It sags after the winch, I'm going to the 882 spring.

 

If I remember right, the 882 is just taller than the 881 so it would probably be fine for your 4 cyl with similar weight, hopefully someone else can confirm this for you. Tbh, I dont think I would want any heavier a spring on mine. Though that could change when I get my sliders on and trans skid installed.

 

That's right. 882 is taller than the 881 both with 500 lb spring rate. 883 is a 590 lb spring.

 

So will I need to drop my front diff with the 882's ?

 

The debate of the need for and usefulness of diff drops seems to be endless. I'd suggest reading up on the topic, then making a decision after seeing what your CV angles look like once the lift is installed.

 

I had cv boot/angle issues, did diff drop first because its cheap and easy..... wasted my money. Cv boot slide mod fixed my problems. Not saying it didn't help slightly, but I blew up another pair of boots after it was done. So try what you will, but I would go straight to the cv boot mod. (I'm really proficient at cv boot repairs these days....1st set had 150k miles, second set after lift and diff drop, 3rd set holding great after slide mod.)

 

Bought 883 coils with my OME lift, was running my ARB bumper and BudBuilt engine skid before our Death Valley trip in late 2015...tore a boot, which lead to this:




3 wheel drive from Saline Springs, through Steel Pass.

Post trip, I ended up replacing both CV axles, completed the CV boot mod, AND installed my WARN 8000 winch.

Now almost 18 months later, no issues.

Just installed 73 lbs. of steel sliders, and with the Dakar HD leaf pack in the rear, this is how I sit:

 

So is the boot mod on here ?
