sticking out past the flares

so i have been in search of the perfect rim that will sit exactly flush with the fender flares and not stick out at all.

after doing a lot of research the pro comp 7069 wheels seems to be the ticket.

however i am a little confused after seeing pictures and looking at tire specs.

i was under the impression that with "less" backspacing (smaller number) the rims/tires will stick out further away from the vehicle and with "more" backspacing (bigger number) the rims/tires will sit closer to the vehicle.

so i am comparing between pro comp 15x8 -19mm offset 3.75 backspacing

pro comp 16x8 0mm offset 4.0 inches backspacing

it seems the 16x8 tire with the 4.0" backspacing is sticking out farther than the the 15x8 with 3.75 inch backspacing.

how is this possible?

anyone with more pics of these rim setups fromthe side angle showing how far past the fenders they stick out.

really need something that doesn't stick out but want it to sit flush with the flares.

which would you choose?

 

I have the 16's and the tires stick out past the flares about an inch. you can see it a bit here, and yes it does fling mud and water everywhere.

 

Hard to tell by the pictures in those links.

 

backspacing is one thing, offset is another factor for where the rim sits.

thanks for the replies. picture of truck looks pretty dead even to me any other angles more straight on so can se more it actually sticking out.

As long as all the threads are tucked under the flare should work perfect if the tire "bulge" is sticking past the flares thats fine.

the chart looks good but i have a hard time understanding what it is telling me.
I assume its saying that with a 8" wide rim it will have the same "stance" weather you have 0mm offset (4.5" BS) -12mm offset (4.0"BS) or -19mm offset (3.75"BS)? if not how do i read that chart? what is it supposed to be telling/showing me.

 

OK after looking at the chart and looking at the other website i am even more confused than ever.

from what i can see less BS will push the rim further outward away from the vehicle and more backspacing will allow for the rims/tires to be closer to the vehicle.

from the pictures above the 15x8 with 3.75" backspacing should be sticking out "farther/wider" than the 16x8 with 4.0" BS.

why does the 16" rim with the 4.0 inches backspacing seem to be sticking out farther than the 15" rim with the 3.75"BS shouldn't it be different?

from my understanding "offset" is just another meadurement that you can use to determine what wheel backspacing your rims have, so an a 8" rim with 4" of backspacing should have a -12mm offset correct?

if that is true than how can this 16x8" rim with 4.0" backspacing have a 0mm offset? is that a typo?

It totally depends on the tire width as well...

 

yup but assuming the width is the same = 8" everything should be the same no matter how tall the rim is 15", 16" 17" 20", both rims mentioned above are same width 8".

why dont the numbers/tires line up (3.75 should be sticking out past the 4.0)

3.75 looks to be tucked in a liitle more than the 4.0. can someone explain this?

 

You have two different angles I bet they are the same

 

And tires aren't 8" some are 10" some 12.5" and everywhere in between

 

Ignore the tire size but to compare the two wheels look at this-




Diameter doesn't matter. Both wheels are the same width. The change in 7mm of offset pushes the wheel out an additional 7mm.
16"x8" with 4.0" of backspacing = -12mm offset
15"x8" with 3.75" of backspacing = -19mm offset
That's a difference of .25" (7mm) where the 15x8 -19mm offset (3.75" back spacing) wheel sticks out a little more than the 16x8 -12mm offset (4.0" back spacing)



edit: that Amazon link showing 16"x8" 0mm offset and 4.0" back spacing is a typo. It's either 4.5" backspacing with 0mm offset OR -12mm offset to achieve 4.0" back spacing

Without seeing the actual edge of the rim this a mute point.

 

Not sure this helps, but my set up is right to the fender. SCS wheel, 265/75/16, 4.5 BS 3.5 BS is past the fender by a good bit. Best pics down the sides I can find.
