    If you want it 10 x 10 just replace 7 of the 2 x 6 x 8 with 2 x 6 x 10.

Added lights as requested by my wife.

Looks great OZ!...wondering how much weight is added to that roof? In structure alone you have, quite a bit.

    Sort of home improvement...

A friend asked me to build a couple of blanket ladders (had no clue what a blanket ladder was) - she sent me the plans from Pinterest. Simple 2x4 & 2x6 contsruction. Original plans called for pocket screws on back of horizontal pieces, but I don't own a jig. Used wood glue and simple brass torx screws & finishing washers since she'll be painting them black & then distressing. I added a 15 degree cut on bottom so they sit flush when leaning back. Just over an hour to complete, including cutting & assembly. Pretty simple project.

I live on a dead end and the section of my property on the opposite side of the road had Forsythia's growing right up to the edge of the pavement. Last fall I had my city come up with a bush-hog and cut them back some so there would be room to pile the snow during the winter. I don't want them entirely gone as they're a nice buffer. Well as you all know, those Forsythias are almost impossible to eliminate. Today I cleared out about 200 sq feet by hand (digging out each root-ball) and got it all cleaned up for some top soil & seed. It'll be nice having some grass on that edge. Went back about 5 feet and matched the contour of the road as best I could. All the debris to the right of the area I cleared is the remnants of the bush-hog.

All that sand is from the mountain of snow that was piled on the dead end from this winter. The city will clean it up soon with a street sweeper.

So I need to add vinyl siding over the brick fireplace I terminated at the roof line. Since the picture, the fascia was covered with metal. Gutters will be removed and replace to be one single piece of seamless.

The brick that stops at the soffit just looks off and out of place. If I cover it with vinyl siding I think it will match the house and blend in better. The plan is to do add furring strips and nail the siding to that. As you'll see the fascia is just a single 1x so I will need a piece of flashing over it.

The main question I have is in regards to moisture. Do I need to seal the brick with paint or some sort of vapor barrier before adding the furring strips? Right now the fireplace is somewhat damp behind the electric insert but I havent been worried because the brick can still breathe.

    Thoughts?

We got a confirmation on the length of eave skylight this morning so we finished the bottom 5' of the decking on either end of the 40' skylight .

Because we decided to start decking last week at the top of the eave skylight height and work our way up , that left us witb a groove side of the board to join our boards we were installing today .

We have been driving a 3" nail or 2 through the tongue at each rafter to snug up the boards tight to each other plus 3 / 3" nails through the face of the decking into the rafters so we needed to change the direction of the tongue in order to work down but still be able to drive spikes through the tongue side of the board

To switch directions we ripped and installed a spline and decked down to the bottom of the roof overhang

As a side note I can state today that I do not recommend trying to do t&g going backwards down a slope lol

Anyways we have 68 rows , 80' long installed and about 20 rows to go , hope to finish decking tomorrow and then we can lay the plywood on the decking and then install the peel & stick

Should have a lot to add to this soon...closing on a house in a couple weeks.

Previous owners only had it for about two years. I agree with most of the changes they made, except I noticed they painted the wood cabinets in the kitchen white. :annoyed:

That'll probably be something I do pretty quick--try to strip the paint off of them to restore the wood.

I also don't care much for the cheap laminate simulated wood they replaced the kitchen flooring with. If you're going that route, at least spend a little and get the better looking stuff.

Not my home, but my chickies future home. Again, nearly all scrap, recycled/repurposed materials. I've only bought a sheet of plywood and a 4x4 PT post.
I'll have to buy some hinges and some sort of latch. But other than that, it's all previously loved materials. Roof goes on tomorrow.

Random air barrier sealing details pic haha , not sure why that got sent

We beat the rain and managed to get the last row of decking installed at 4:15 today . So damn glad that is over , my knees and back are pretty sore from packing 20' boards up and down that slope for 4 days . Total of 88 rows @ 80' long IIRC , thats a lot of nailing at 5" of coverage at a time lol

So happy that I treated myself to a double scoop Belgian Chocolate gelato in a waffle cone after work

Not the greatest lighting at the end of the day but here it is

Be nice and bright once the temporary plywood is off the skylights

Plywood goes on tomorrow , a bit of dicking around with the 2'x12' skylight curbs and then we can install the peel and stick and we will finally be water tight
