I've been looking around on here and I can't seem to find a straight answer. I am running 265/75/r16 tires and am looking to get some new wheels. I am going to be putting in Billstein 5100 shocks and an add a leaf as well. My question is if anyone knows if a 16x8 wheel with 4.5" back spacing will fit well or if I should go with 5.25" instead?

5.25 is stock for 2nd gen, 4.5 for 1st gen. however most stock wheels are 16x7 or 17x7. you may get some rubbing with wider rim and less BS

I can tell you I'm in the middle of the same install and I'm having issues with the 4.5" BS. The caliper is rubbing the lateral side of the wheel. So if you want it to work, you'll need the 1.25" wheel spacers.

What wheels are you running? Is there some structure that is hitting the caliper? It just doesn't make sense to me for the caliper to rub since it moves with the wheel. So long as the wheel diameter is wide enough to clear the caliper/rotor setup it should be ok?

I'm running the American Racing Baja wheels. 16/8. They rub on the lateral side of the caliper, not the circumference of the caliper. The wheel is plenty wide, just needs to be further away from the wheel.

technically yes, the BS would go to 3.25 but it also moves the entire rim outward which will have the tire rub on the fender/mudflap/pinch weld areas

the caliper actually is stationary, otherwise you wouldn't have brakes pads to grab the rotor :)

@tamer if you are hitting the caliper on the lateral side then you can notch a section of wheel or get spacers, different style of wheel would work but that's another expense

take out material on the back of the rim where the caliper hits. as long as you only take out a little it should be fine. might only need some minor grinding.

If you get the proper wheel, it wont hit the caliper. 4.5 inches of backspacing should be good, might rub on the fenders as the scrub radius is increased.

I know this is an old post ....... but What about a17" wheel versus a16" ? Will that prevent caliper rub ?

No, the caliper rub I had was from the lateral side of the caliper, not the circumference. 16" is stock for my truck.

My wheel is 4.5" backspace and the caliper rubbed. Not all wheels are created equal.

My tires are 1" taller and 3/4 " wider than 265/75s . I think it should be ok . Lifted 2 1/2" with TC UCAs .

You may have rubbing on the cab mount and/or pinch weld. At the very least you will have to remove mud flaps and do a little plastic trim on the inner fenders.
