What do you need? Trust me if it's for splitting wood by hand, I have it.
Plus some big rounds of wood for a base.

lol i'm just messing with you :boink:

literally.... everything. haha we will have a wood burning fireplace at the new house and I have split wood before, but never for my own house.... So I know almost nothing about storing, drying, where to get bases, etc..

so just the fact that you gave me the idea to carry my sawzaw and an extension cord in my truck and take wood from the side of the road etc... and look for it on craigslist as well..... is a great help!

I cut dead trees off of my property - I live on a 400 acre farm. Depending on the size I split it with a hydraulic splitter, or with a maul. I have built a rack to store it, or you can buy a metal rack. Stack it neatly. I know it's counter intuitive, but don't cover it, it will take longer to try. Fortunately I have access to a kiln through my wife's work, but depending on how long the tree has been dead, it can take up to and over a year to season. I try to use trees that I cut last year. Wet wood will still burn but it is nowhere near as efficient, and when you're only option is either electric baseboard, which is expensive as hell, or your wood stove, believe me, you want to have that wood burning efficiently.

Free wood is nice but I also enjoy felling the trees myself. And as @chiefcrunchy mentioned, sometimes you have to cut it down on your own on the side of the road, and by the time I have done that and then loaded it in my truck, it's just as easy to walk into my "backyard" and drag it out with a tractor.

oh for sure... I wont need it as a primary heat source as we'll have a furnace..... but I just dont want to go buy wood at the grocery store for $5 per fire.... so I'll buy an 8ft storage rack, and go ahead and keep a supply in that so we can have a fire in the fireplace or a bonfire etc.... whenever

and what I have been reading is to put a hood over it to keep the rain off, but dont drape the hood over the wood since you want air to be able to dry the wood out

It's best to have a roof and to stack so there is airflow constantly moving around, hence the draping not covering the pile.

makes sense... so I'll probably buy a rack, then make a roof with a tarp and some poles... and I have been watching YouTube videos on how to stack and proper splitting / drying techniques....

What did you get? I'm a nerd for axes. I have about 80 different ones.

    Dude...that tattoo is awesome!

I got this axe, in the "Lincoln" finish: https://www.bestmadeco.com/products/american-felling-axe?option_values=2262.

I really like it but I would like to get more axes. The eternal struggle in my head is whether to spend the little extra cash I have on guns, tattoos or axes. Guns and tattoos have been winning out for the last couple of years. I have some cheaper ones, but do you have any other recommendations?

That axe was way too expensive for me to have bought in on my own. After I received it I looked it up, and it's apparently just a re-branded Council, but it was still a nice gesture.

It's the 320 carry 9mm, I'm going to get the
    .40 barrel as well.
