    OK, before anyone says anything I have to relate how I came to own these. My birthday was 3 weeks ago and my 11-year-old grandson sent me . We spoke on the phone and I found that he bought it with his money earned from yard work from neighbors. He also proudly announced how he used an HF 25% off coupon he had been saving for "something special".

    Well they are coming to visit this weekend so WTF am I supposed to do? Got it installed this afternoon:

    whole thing:

    relay connections:

    compressor & horns:

    I'll need to clean up and wrap the wiring, but I want to show him how it works first--he's mechanically inclined and pretty bright kid, get's it from his grandmother I guess...

    Your grandson is a cool grown man now. He worked, he saved, and he did something for someone he loves. Nice!!

    HF claims 135 dB¹ (they do not specify at what distance and weighting, 1 meter and "A" weighting is normal for stuff like this)--it's pretty loud. It's the same as the Wolo Airmite 2, they claim 120 dB (click here to here it [volume down, it's loud]).

    Airmite 2:
    [IMG]

    Standing in front of the truck they are near painfully loud (140 dBA is the threshold of pain).

    I had Wolo's Bad Boy horn on my 400 Burgman, a compact version of the dual horns--they got people's attention. You do need a relay and 30 A fused source to run them and the dual horn kit. This is a trace of the current drawn by the Bad Boy, it pulls 36 A at startup which falls to the claimed 16A 100 ms later--I'd bet $5 the dual horn compressor is pretty close.:

    -----------------------------------------
    ¹ - News Flash! HF tends to exaggerate the claimed specifications of their products.

    I had some on my FJ, they are pretty loud not too bad for the price. If I had paid a premium I would have taken them back.

    That's very cool of you to recognize that this means a lot to him and to take the time to install it and show him how it works. I know that'll make him super happy! Great story.

    I installed the overhead hoist to remove the grill, but then had to wait for the Toyota technician to come and open the hood. Next I had an automotive electrician drop by to disconnect the battery--he was good enough to wait around while the machinist fabricated the mounting bracket and got the compressor and horns mounted. With the compressor secured the electrical work could be wrapped up (sort of).

    But then we had to wait (and wait, and wait...) for the pneumatic guys to show up to connect the compressor to the horns. Once that was done the electrician (primed with 1/2 case of my beer) reconnected the battery and to everyone's surprise it worked!!!

    The Toyota guy said he could not hang around any longer but would be back first "thing in the morning", so the next morning I dropped the grill into place and after he came (2:30 PM) to shut the hood I went for a test drive. I was lucky that there were sufficient numbers of idiots¹ and àssholes², and fύckheads³ for me to give it a good workout.

    Bottom line--I like it, it's better than Cats...

    -----------------------------------
    ¹ - idiots are those going faster than you;
    ² - àssholes are those going slower than you;
    ³ - fύckheads are the other 99.44% of drivers;
