Has anyone ever "lapped" a set a valves? I just bough some compound & a lapping tool. Poor mans valve job, lol.

 

^ i did it once to a harley but i dont trust my self that much to do it with out help from the guy that watched over me last time

Well I haven't actually bought it yet, I just called to be sure they have everything & I was going to pick it up at lunch so it's not too late!! I already have the coarse compound but I need some fine (like 320-400 grit) & the suction cup tool. You have that stuff? Can I use it?

 

haha the guy that helped me knew his shit to say the least my sportster was making like 80 hp out of a 1250cc motor

 

yea that was my next thing but i sold it smart on my part that thing would do some badass wheelies

 

No problem, the tool is only 6 bucks at Napa & the compound we use here at work for polishing parts so I will just order some for the shop & use a little for my valves

 

It's all good, I know how it is loaning tools to people & getting them back half effed up, or not getting them back at all. I don't blame him. That being said, I think my 1/2" impact has bitten the dust, I need to see if the Snap-on man can fix it, but in the mean time............you wanta loan me one?

Maybe after work, but I'm not sure when I am getting off. I need to get as much done today as possible so I can get outta here at a decent time tomorrow, so I may work late.

I ordered a head gasket set & new head bolts from engnbldr.com. I think that I am going to start ordering everything from them. They offer all kinds of performance parts & rebuild stuff. I am really thinking about ordering there RV camshaft, it's only $100. After looking at what they offer & there prices, I got ripped on that timing chain set from LC Engineering . Engnblder has a steel guide timing set with a new water pump for less than I paid for a plastic guide set alone from LCE. I wonder what LCE's return policy is?

 

Tomorrow is cool on the impact, I don't need it right away.


Yeah, I just double checked there return policy & I have to ship it backon my dime & they charge a 30% restocking fee . I guess I will keep what i got

 

And to add a little salt to the wound, The head gasket kit I just ordered already comes with intake manifold, exhaust manifold & valve cover gaskets that I already bought seperatlly from LCE. Looks like I have duplicates now.

You can say that again, I paid top dollar for the first batch & got a hell of a deal on the head gasket set.

 

I got my timing cover & oil pan cleaned up good today

 

Thanks man, I will let you know when it is ready to go back in, I'm sure I will need a few extra hands.

Yeah, I have some more pics that I will try & post later tonight, mainly just cleaning parts still. I am kinda stuck waiting on my head gasket set to come in from engnbldr. Since I have it so far apart, I am sure considering slowing down the build by a few days & going ahead & replaceing the bearings & rings. I need to make up my mind by tomorrow morning. Really the short blocks looks pretty damn good & would prob last a pretty long time like it is, but it wouldn't cost that much more to replace that stuff anyways. What do you guys think? I could put a light hone on the cylinders myself.
